Kenwood's DNX8120 head unit represents a great combination of navigation, Parrot Bluetooth connectivity, and most importantly, multimedia entertainment.
The Bluetooth automatically downloads your phone book when it's initially synced.

Customizable Graphical User Interface

6.95" wide double-DIN unit with a completely customizable GUI (Graphic User Interface) and gorgeous cosmetics. Includes 3 Skin Patterns.

DVD Audio and Video with Dolby Digital and DTS decoding. 5.1 is back.

5V Preouts

One of the fastest iPod controllers, and although not documented, the reps say that it's compatible with iPhones as well.
Two USB inputs make it easy to add photos, music, or both.

What makes the DNX8120 special is how much connectivity is onboard. The DNX8120 is HD Radio-ready, XM-ready with XM Traffic and Weather as well. For a deluxe way to cruise down the road, Kenwood's taking the lead with the DNX8120.

The replacement for the DNX7100 will be the DNX7120 and it will have the GUI upgrades.

Price difference between the 7120 and the 8120 will be avout $100 range,

Well worth the money to spend the difference for the Excelon piece you will gain

2 Year warranty,
2 Switched outputs,
More customizable backgrounds,
5.1 Digital PREOUTS, 5.1 Audio Playback
5VOLT Pre-outs.
2 AV Inputs

Well worth the price difference.
I am not even carrying the 7120 this year, In my opinion It is just not worth the money when you can spend a nother $100 and get into a Much Better unit like the 8120.

If looking for a cheaper unit check out the DNX5120

so i will be able to upgrade my 7100 to the 7120, similar to how you can upgrade the avic z1 to avic z2. I realize there might be some hardware differences but will i be able to buy an upgrade disk, or download files from kenwood to upgrade/update my GUI, etc.

Duke - thanks for the addtl info. i looked around the kenwood site and couldnt find any info yet, is that not on the street yet, just in the dealers hands?

It is not even in the dealers hands yet. You will not be able to upgrade the DNX7100 to a DNX7120. If you wanted a DNX7120 you will have have to purchase one, but as stated above your best bet is the DNX8120.

I see the Bluetooth is built-in. Does it come with an external mic like the KCA-BT100?
Also, I assume you still have to buy the iPod connector as an add-on?

Still comes with an external mic. As far as the iPod connector if you are not going to do video no adaptor is required, if you want video functions then you need the KCAiIP300V which only retails for $30.00

I don't know much about Kenwood products, so my question may be extremely basic.

Will you still be able to use the controls in the steering wheel?

I purchased an Eclipse product last year without realizing I would lose the use of the steering wheel controls.

Thank you!!!

I believe there is an adapter you can buy to maintain the steering controls, but I'll let Nazar say for sure.

I have this same question as well. The steering controls are so nice cause you can change volume while keeping eyes on the road and hands on the wheel.

Steering wheel adapter is "peswakjc" By peripheral, and there are about 3 other companis that make a steering wheel adapter. Price is in the randge of $59-79

Sell the Z2 whilce you can still get some good money for it and get the Knenwood. Once you have the i-pod hooked up with the DNX-8120 you have no reason to have a Harddrive in the unit at all.

Sorry, I'm a noob, what does that mean???

"And there are about 3 other companis that make a steering wheel adapter. Price is in the range of $59-79."

Who would you suggest getting the adapter through?
