i stoped counting how much money i spent

but since 1986 i would imagine approaching 50K

$ 285 aint bad

if you think it is a lot , that is fine

do it your self

what we are talking about is part placement , followed by wire routing

i feel after you do it yourself , you will see $ 285 is reasonable

yo dont flame on circuit city cause i used to work there and it all depends on who is doing the install, not the place. I admit ive seen some hacked up jobs from people at work, but thats because they try to get it in and out. I take my time and havent had one problem with any system ive installed in the last 4 years including 5 local 350z's. So talk to the installer and dont worry about the place. Personally i would trust best buy or circuit city than a local shop.

+1, i currently work as an installer at circuit city and it all depends on the installer, not where he works. I work with 3 other people and all of which i would trust with my own car. Honestly, i wouldnt put other retail stores up at the same level as my CC so i would just talk to the installers about how comfortable they are with doing any perticular install before choosing where to get the work done.

This is some reassuring feedback. Maybe I should just go in there and holla. i had a system installed in my girl's SUV and they seemed cool...it was circuit city as well. Haha.

Ok, so I called a few places and got quotes from them. Most of them said 200 dollars plus tax. So, I'm thinkin hmmmm, either save a few dollars and go to CC or BB or I can go to "bleep" and get it don't for 285. What do you guys think? for my Mid-A folks....any suggestions? And why?

So if you aren't even going to consider doing this install yourself, why is the title of your thread "I need a sub/amp understrut box DIY"?

just curious. This install could take you less that 3 hours on your owna dn you would save the money. Especially since you say you are familiar with all that needs to be done. If you really are not familiar with what needs to be done then by all means have a professional do it.

Ah Touche streetOC...toucha. Hahaha! I'd like to, but I'm not a fan of jackin it up and being with sound. I need sound in the car...but the polite hum of the engine sounds nice as well. but I haven't come up with a firm DIY guide for the job yet, so I was considering have a pro do it.

I hear ya. Well, for my money, I would go to the "bleep" shop. Not because I think that CC or BB 'will' do a hack job, but rather because they 'may' do a hack job. As stated in previous posts, it depends on the installer in the bay that day. At a shop whose ONLY business is car audio, there may be more of a consistency in the workmanship. The peace of mind is worth the extra ~$85 or whatever.

EDIT:
or you could drive up to NJ and I'll do it for $200

^^^^ +1

If you want to KNOW a job is done right, do it yourself. If you want the best odds you can get short of that? You'll get what you pay for.

Good Luck.

personally a quality job > cheap price when it comes to installing.

I would pay more for a better quality install but thats not to say the 285 place is any better than the 200 buck places.

if you were close to here...i'd do it for $50 and show you how...and give you a better job than others would do. I solder my connections for harnesses as well as heat shrink, i hide all wiring under the carpet, and make all installs look good. I may not be the fastest installer, but I like to do things right the first time.
