Default Alpine MRD-M500 mono sub amp....watcha think?

If you guys remembered I was needing an amp for my single 10" sub.

Well I used to have this in my Audi for 3 years and it was great...very powerful. What are your impressions? I have a local guy selling one for 90 bucks!!! and it works and is in the car right now. I feel like its the smartes choice.

Also I was about to click on the Image Dynamics Q sub 259

but..........I saw the Fi sub for 220

and this which I really like the price 390 for 150!
http://www.woofersetc.com/index.cfm?...roduct_ID=3878

dont see how it could be bad..........but I also will not waste my money if the IDQ sub i worth a 120 more.

I listen to LOTS of techno, drum and bass, trance and about 15% rap and will be sealed.

Also my local shop will build me a understrut box that has 100% gaurenteed perfect fit and wrapped in suede for 175 and will make it to the required Cubic Vol. for the sub I purchase.

Seems a bit better than the 130 shipped ebay one right??????

If you liked the amp and it provides the power you need then go for it.

Subs 'can' be almost as subjective as components. From what I recall, the MBQ subs weren't all that bad to be honest. That is also a good price for them. I would recommend the FI sub out of the 3 you mentioned for your needs (assuming you mean the SSD). The IDQ might be a bit too tight for you, as might the MB sub. This is of course just my opinion.

I'm sure Mike from Zenclosures would wrap an understrut box in suede if you wanted. Just shoot him an email. Mike has been making these boxes for a long time and his workmanship is impeccable. I would like to see the sponsor of this board get the business, but supporting your local shop is good too.

see I saw a local Z that said he got the ebay sub box. It fit poorly, stuck out 1/4" and the arc under the strut bar was not uniform. It looked bad.

Now unless there was another company making them I dunno. But for my local shop who I personally know. 175 is pretty damn good dont you think? And it will be the exact space the sub required.

I have had the Zonix enclosure and Mike's Zenclosure and both are great quality boxes, fit and finish (Mike's carpeting is nicer than the Zonix). There may be other people making and selling or maybe he just got a bad one made on a Monday after a big drinking weekend.

Anyway, either way you go I'm sure you will get a good product. Email mike just to see what he would charge you for suede wrapping. and to see if he will custom make one for you to a different volume if that's what you need/want. It doesn't hurt to ask.

He is a member/sponsor of this forum, but I know he's busy and doesn't come on here too often, otherwise I would say to PM him.

I was actually talking about the FI Q sub...but realized I do not have 1000rms to provide it.

I may go with the SSQ instead. I hope they can get it out in time!

well guys I think I am going to order the SSD but I have no clue what parts to order.

Copper coils +$5
BP power +$40
Flat wind coil +$20

I think flat wind coil and copper would be a wise upgrade. Also since I only have 500rms I dont think I need BP...even though I dunno what it is haha.

And to have a 2 ohm amp load I should order the dual 2 ohm correct?

The BP power option is not needed for your install, that would be more for someone pushing the sub to its limits day in and day out. For $25, go for the other options. To get a final load of 2ohms, you will want the dual 1ohm and wire the voice coils in series.

Power handling is based on the ratio of surface area to mass. Using flat wound voice coils increases surface area while keeping mass the same. Power handling is increased. Not bad insurance for $20. If you don't see yourself ever pushing the limits of this sub, then don't get this option.
