vcr camera idea
OK, a fledgling of the crazy idea D_Nyholm had about mounting like 8 cameras in his car all angles recording to a car vcr, here is my idea. I park in a driveway. Unfortunately I have to park outside as the two Lincolns (aviator and navigator) have precidence in the garage. My z was recently attacked with window paint by some members of my high-school. Thank god they just put window paint on the windows and left the actual car alone. anyways, my idea: mount a motion sensor camera on my front dash, when it senses motion or lighting change, it will turn on and remote record to a vcr in the room 50ft from the driveway, and only through one wall. Would this work? What would be needed? Any help appreciated. Thanks.
btw, this is a rough sketch of my driveway for clarity:

There is a company actually doing this in vehicles without the elaborate setup you describe, but it is mostly for trucking, refuse, fire, mining, emergency, military and construction. Its an OEM looking setup, and is proven technology. If you are really interested in getting this type of setup, drop me an email. Remember, this will not be cheap, so if you don't have some bucks, you probably shouldn't think about it.
I don't work for the company, nor do I have any investments in it. I just don't want my contact to be inundated with a ton of calls and get sidetracked from her real job.

I think a simple way to try to catch some home vandalism on tape is to use your camera hooked up to a vcr in your house. Get the longest VCR tape you can find. Then set the VCR to EP or LP, whichever records longer. Even a two hour tape should get you 6 hours of recording time. Put the camera in a window somplace and turn it on before you go to bed. You'll only be missing maybe two hours at night near dawn. Then you can replay the tape the next day if you ended up getting vandalized.
Most digital camcorders (and others?) have night shot. You can buy a SONY infrared lamp pretty cheap. That will give you 100 feet of nightshot distance to record in.
This seems to be the easiest solution for people getting damaged at their own homes.
Remember to turn off the record tally light.
