Default car toys. ugh.

i recently purchased an infinity basslink 2 subwoofer for my Z, and have not had time to look in to installing it myself. i work 6 days a week, and on my day off, i usually just sleep and relax.

anyhoo, i've been looking for a place to install it, and there is a car toys right by my house. i know this place is infamous for ripoffs, but holy crap, today was a new slap in the face.

they wanted $180 to install my basslink. WTF?!

i know my laziness comes at a premium, but come on!

I would never do car toys because they are way overpriced on everything. Try circuit city they quoted me around 60 (full install) but I did most of it myself then had best buy do the rest for 40.

ok. so i went to best buy today, of which they quoted me at $75 for the install. i'm was ok with that.

i get a call an hour later telling me my new total is $250 because they needed to sell me a amp wiring kit (because my basslink didn't come with power?) for $120. they've already taken my car apart and so the remainder of the $250 is for labor.

i am getting hosed so bad right now. i was told even if i said no on the amp wiring kit, i would still have to pay for the labor, and even then i would drive out with my sub not working.

i'm super pissed right now. any suggestions?!

I would never let any car audio installer tell me "I HAVE to pay for this or that" when it was not mentioned before the install began. Although, when you purchased the Basslink,,,the instructions should have listed amp kit needed,,or the Basslink should have come with the necessary hardware to install. I bought an Infinity Basslink many years ago,(2001?) and it seemed everything was there to make the install except RCA cables.

Neither hear or there,,,1. I would never let anyone at BB, CC or such touch my car. ( no offence anyone,,dont want to open a can of worms)2. If an amp kit was needed,,you would think they would have known that before accepting the install job. And last but not least,,,They would never tell me "I HAD" to do anything. There are many avenue's an establishment can take in order to get their "suggestion" known. Otherwise,,,I would go back there,,,put my car panels, ect. ect. in the hatch of my car,,use my "day off",,, Sign on here,,,get step by step directions on how to do this install,,
after install, take wife out to dinner and enjoy the "great" new sounds together all the while she is getting turned on by the thought of you doing this manly install yourself....<wink> j/king.

Whatever the case,,,I hope you were able to get everything worked out and you are happy with your new sounds...Good Luck.

Man they're making you buy a $120 wiring kit for a $160 sub/amp? =X

I don't have the calculator or anything but if 10 gauge is enough for 200 watts you may be able to ask them to use this:

http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage....#productdetail

or buy an 8 gauge amp wiring kit from fry's for 20 bux and tell them to use that.

update:

when i arrived to pick up my Z, bestbuy tried to total me out at $275 total, labor, parts etc.

i immediately grabbed a manager and told him i wasn't giving them a dime now that they were upping the total this much. my install went from roughly $100 to $275????

he told me i was obligated to pay because i signed the form when i dropped off the car. i told him i signed NOTHING. he felt like an idiot and realized he had no ammo left. i gave my installer $100 cash because he was actually a good guy who was just doing as he was told and worked hard on my car. i told the manager good luck trying to charge me for anything at all, got in my car and drove away.

moral: best buy, car toys, etc. SUCK.

That's fugg'ed up....i'm am one of those who don't know how to install a stereo but after David's experience...i would never let best buy, circuit city etc. touch my car. I would rather search, search and search here and do it myself.
