What sub to keep in my car
Well i have had both the JL 10W3V1s and Alpine 10" type Rs in my car and cannot decide which one i want to keep in my car and which ones to sell.
I switched from a roadster trunk box(2 subs) to a custom behind the seat enclosure(1 sub). I want to know your opinions on which ones you guys prefer. I like bass and i listen to SOME rap, but mostly alternative.
Secs on the box:
firing down
airspace: approx .8 cubic ft.
Powering it with Alpine 600watt amp

i see people are voting in favor of the 10W3....any reason why? Or are you just JL groupies?

Both very good sounds, JL has more clarity and Type R has more bass, and like what someone else said "JL like BMW, they charge you for the sub and the name, alpine charges only for the sub."

SOMEONE QUOTED MEEE!!! I feel like i gave good info for once haha. It really is true, i did months of research and listened to both in my car in both ported and non ported boxes, and i ended up with a non-ported Alpine type R 10"
if i wanted a 12" though, id go 12W7 before anything... nothing compares... if it were a 10 W6v2 or 10W7, id swing the other way, W3 FTL.

i know people buy JLs sometimes for the name but i got both of my 10W3s for $100 but paid the full price for my alpines
I like them both but am not sure which one will sound better...
any others? box wont be done till late next week so i got time to decide...hell i might buy an entirely new sub but i was kinda saving the money for new components in the front.

I have the alpine MRP-M650
http://www.alpine-usa.com/US-en/prod...model=MRP-M650
should be good enough to handle one sub right?
I might just sell them all and get the new JL pie plates (the thin ones)...MMmmMMmmMM

Both are great but are you aware JL is on their 3rd version of the W3. Of course matching the right amp to the sub makes a big difference. I just received the 10W3V3 in Wicked C.A.S. corner box and will be running a 500/5 amp for my complete system. I agree selling everything and upgrading.
BTW: I'm a bias & a brand name *****. Alpine for headunits, JL for speaker!

this is a hard one. Both sound relatively good. I've had owned both previous. I still think the W3 is a better sounding subwoofer even though i don't feel it gets as loud as the type Rs. You can't really go wrong with either. I would lean towards JL and that's not me being bias.

I have a single JL 10w3v2. I absolutely love it. I had a custom fiberglass enclosure made to go behind the driver seat. I recently moved the enclosure under my strut bar, because it sounds better back there. But i had a 12" JL 10w3 in my old car, and loved that one too.

Both good subs, I have a 10W3V3 and it sounds very clean, but if your looking for a lot of "Bump" for like hip hop then I would go with the Type R or get a W6. The W3 has enough bump for me if you supply the optimum RMS of 300W and sounds nice with other types of music too IMO.
