Default Help me pick. AVN 5500 or AVIC D3

Alright. I have the option to get either an Eclipse AVN 5500 or a Pioneer AVIC D3 for about the same price. I cant decide which one to pick. I can also put a bit more money into it and get the D3X.

What do you guys think? Is the D3 better than the AVN5500?

Thanks for your help in advance

I know you can get the D3 way cheaper then that soo your saving money on the D3, but eclipse headunits are very well made maybe even more so then Pioneer.

I was in the same dilemma last week and went with the D3, but when it comes down to it its personal choice. See if there are any features that one offers the other doesnt. But since the D3 is no longer in production and seems as alot of place had them stock piled you can get a good price on them. Got mine for $520.

Where did you get the d3 for 520 may i ask?
The thing is, i can get both for 550. The AVN will be used, and the D3 will be new.

Yeah I got mine from a dealer in my area that i have bought ton of stuff from over the years and he gave me a little bit more a a deal. $550 is still an awesome price on both. Is that through al-eds on the D3?

Thats where i was gonna get it before my local shop gave me a better price.

If I remember right the Eclipse has better preout voltage and more tunable EQ. So for sq it maybe a little better. But your gonna get a used player instead of a new one. So its a tough choice.

doesn't the D3 have Divx capability? That might make up for it's 6 inch screen...

Yeah that it does... I like the D3 but its the first dvd player/nav system i have had so I dont really have anything to compare it to.

Wouldnt it be a hell of alot easier if some just said pick this one!!

Default Bottom Line...

Dude i just got a D3 and its amazing. Ive heard bad things about Eclipse (not so well made my friend /\ ) But common you would take a used unit of equal or worse features over the d3? Dont be retarded. One reason i chose the D3 was that it fit flush in the dash with no motorized face (which in park i thought might hit my shifter when opening [auto]) to stick out alittle. Im not a big fan of the motorized faces ( more **** to go wrong--and if it does go out your screwed) Dude the pioneer is a bad unit def go with taht one. Plus ya fellas, the D3 plays Divx (ive already d/l like 100 movies at 700mb each and put them on CD-Rs which the D3 plays perfectly) Just for ref heres a couple of pics of the D3 installed in a 350. Eclipse sux ***** man.

Ignorance is bliss my friend. Do some research once into the top headunits and made and tell me eclipse doesnt come up time and time again.

How many eclipses have you owned? Prolly none. The features of a good Eclipse headunit for SQ can far exceed the d3. The product he picked i believe is a double din nav unit so single din has nothing to do with it.

I get a kick out of people throwing hissy fits about stuff they never owned.

Back to the thread i see you made your decision man... D3 is a good headunit and you deffiantly wont be dissappointed. Good Luck Man

Who said anything about single din?? You just make that up or just trying to push your points (which there are none anyway) I never mentioned single din but we'll let that one slide.

Oh and while we're on the subject of you just throwing in stupid **** to try to make a feeble point, you seem to greatly assume ive never owned an eclipse...another good call cause i HAVE...2 actually and both video units as well. Both had problems, but i dont want to beat your argument down too much.

And a better SQ is all you could mention?? common. I have done the research, as well as the personal experience research and both are a negative. Eclipse is made no better than many competitors and is priced way too high; and for the money--Alpine is much better.

You seem to argue in high favor of eclipse yet you own a pioneer?

Ignorance IS bliss, and I love when people throw hissy fits about people who share their opinion.

In terms of sound quality, Eclipse owns the Pioneer. But Pioneer is good in every other area.

LOL... If youd look at my post i said its a hard choice and one that you would have to make based on looking at the difference and figure out which one had more to offer.

I bought a poineer for the flexibilty of the unit and the types of media it plays. But if your lookin more a SQ unit then maybe eclipse is the way.

If that isnt ignorance i dont know what is...

That doesnt sound like opinion... And the eclipse does not offer equal features it has higher per-out voltage a better eq among other things.

In turn it doesnt play DivX formatted dvds.. They are not designed with the same kind of person in mind. Neither choice is retarded... thats where your ignorance comes in. Enough flaming...

haha lets not fight. thanks for all the help everyone. I still cant decide I think i am leaning more towards the d3 right now. I dont listen to music much... the exhaust overpowers it haha so i think the "every other feature" area is more important to me. Again, thanks for the help.

Lol... Yeah man its a hard choice, when your spending so much money it sseems to make decisions harder.

But for sure id say if sq isnt a big thing on your list, Id get the d3 for its playin capabilities.
