Default Thinkin of component set

I'm not to familiar with component speaker sets.. I was looking through my crutchfield mag and seeing whats available. But I'm not a system nut. So I don't know what much means. So I'm kinda lost with what to go after..

Anybody with havin component sets have any ideas of what to get?? I'm not looking to spend alot either.. I just want something that will sound better and clearer then stock. But not something that is made like crap that will crap out on me when I decide to turn it up.. Thanks.. And do I need an amp?? Like is that a must have with a setup?? I mean down the line I'd get one. But to just put the setup in n play it. Is that fine?? Thanks.

Focal. Whichever model depends on budget.

Alpine PDX amps are the best/smallest/most affordable right now. period.

JL Audio, Rockford Fosgate, Focal, Morel, and JBL.

Components from these manufacturers are among the best that I've heard. I've got JL Audio C5 Series components, and they're nothing less than excellent.

You should hear them back-to-back with Focals.

There's no doubt that Focals have impressive clarity, but the reason I didn't use Focals in my car was because we don't have very good experiences with them when amplified. Their power handling is less than that of the C5s. However, if we were doing an installation without an amplifier in the pursuit of clarity alone, Focals would work out rather nicely. I can say the same for the Infinity Kappas.

You don't need rear speakers since they're in a useless spot, so run comps in the front. The Focal 165V2's (the comps im getting) run $320 on woofersetc.com. The Alpine PDX-2.150 is ~$280 on woofersetc.

Can't compare $320 focals with $6000 rainbows.

I did compare them to JL ZR 6.5's though, and the Focals blew them out of the water.

I am working on my 3rd set of Infinity 6010CS components and I am going to need to replace them. They are really starting to sound bad/scratchy. I think that this is mostly because I have "over-powered" them trying to overcome the fact that they are still in the stock location behind the stock "door grills". What is you budget? I did my setup on a very "cheap" budget. I think it was around $1000 for amps, speakers, wires, boxes with me installing ...

That's REALLY cheap. No wonder you're on your third set, they keep going out!

How much did you pay for them?

I doubt you can get much better than the $1200 focals for clarity. It just doesn't seem possible.

Any suggestions on a 6.5 components? And in defense of Infinity, the first two were pretty much DOA from Crutchfield which they replaced no questions asked. I think that someone returned each set since each box was missing something...mounts, etc.
