Review of SLC 265 Kick Components. lots of Pics!!
Hey, I got the rainbow comps to replace my MB Quart QSD 216 comps because the quart's tweeters were too harsh even with the crossover at -6db and almost no midbass.
I would be considered a noob when it comes to audio so I am only providing a avg joe review so please bear with me
. and don't mind the date i didn't set my clock.
I opted for stock location install because that's what i prefer and think it sounds fine. now for my review, the comps are run off a 300/2 jl amp and i have a clarion max675vd hu.
1)Tweeters - the 1" silk tweets are AWESOME and everyone that owns rainbows agree! haha don't know how else to explain it. They are incredibly detailed and clear and unlike my quart tweets they don't make my ears bleed even at loud volumes. Sound good with any music.
2) mids (dynamated doors) - bass is much improved from the quarts probably due to the larger magnet which i compared during installation. Nothing to write home about yet but the manual and other rainbow owners say the bass improves once the 10 hour break in time is reached.
mids must be set at a 80 hz HP filter at 12db slope specifically stated in the manual. the mids and highs blend in beautifully and the only negative of the stock location is that at higher volumes it clearly sounds like it's coming from the left. since i drive alone 90% of the time this is easily solved by adjusting balance to the right.

stock grill mod learned from my350z.com
(this mod at least is absolutely necessary for mounting in stock location)

Whereas the stock location has the speaker blocked by the door, my friend was able to raise it 1/2" for better clearance and sound.

with the modified grill back in place. looks completely stock and is very cheap to do.

Tweeter must be installed like this in stock location. It won't fit otherwise. I need to wipe it down cause you can see the ugly fingerprint smudges.

and for fun, my led footwell lighting tied into the dome circuit for some awesome vip auto on/off

I will never use anything other than Rainbow products. they are just that good. for those who want something more, rainbow has like 9 component levels with mine being 3rd from the bottom haha.
any opinions appreciated and thx for looking

I was able to get mine for a pretty decent price through a forum vendor but this site is a good reference for the price difference between models.
Just curious if anyone knows what the difference between the kick components and the normal ones are? Theres a difference in price but besides that im clueless.
Also, whats the phase thing thats listed there? Theres a price increase on them too.
