Some people REALLY don't want you to tell them anything other than what they've already decided.

You've been so helpful...Thanks for the advice!

Yes, I've been reading the thread I did not understand however if the Polk's were overpriced but still good speakers. I've seen the other suggestions posted and will definitely look into them.

"overpriced" is a very relative term.

Are AVI speakers overpriced? The 3-way Tri-Star BSM set sells for around $2k US and nobody has really heard of AVI in America. But no, they aren't overpriced because they are probably one of the highest SQ sets you can purchase with a ton of R&D invested. Little if any advertising (I've never seen an ad in a mag), and very few carefully selected sponsorships.

Are JL Audio speakers overpriced? Some would say yes because you can typically get a better product for less money, but on the other hand everyone know JL Audio and is generally impressed with their performance. The general public considers you a pimp if you own all JL equipment. They charge a premium not only for their R&D, but also for the very extensive sponsorships and advertising they do. YOU are paying for that 3 page ad in Auto Sound & Security magazine.

So on to YOUR question, Polk is a very commercialized brand as well, so you have to realize that some of the money charged is to cover ads and sponsorships as well as the R&D of the product. That said, their may be better pieces for the same or less money, but the recognition and branding won't be there.

So when you ask about overpriced, it really depends what you want to pay for......performance or recognition? What's more important for YOU?

I'm looking for performance. I went with the JL sub because I had a 10W7 and was very impressed by it. It was more than enough for my previous sedan so I figured I'd go one size smaller for the Z. I don't however know much about which brands and models of components are good so I based my choices off of what I could find at crutchfield. I might just pony up the extra cash and go with the recommended Rainbow components.
