Default Problem with factory nav

Got a new 07 about a month ago and I have a problem with the nav. Everything works fine except for when for type in an address. After the address is entered and you hit find (or whatever that button says) nothing happens and it freezes. The only button that works at this point is cancel which sends me back to the map.

I took it to the dealer and they looked at it and said they never seen this before so they ordered me a new nav disk.

My new disk has arrived and my questions is is that they told me that it would take over an hour when I take it in early next week. I dont understand why it would take so long? Is there more to it then just swapping out the old disk with the new one?

Thanks guys.

WHAT?? that doesn't seem to sound right? when i got a new nav disk they just dropped it in from what i remember..

wait, unless they are giving you a new rom drive as well... one time they told me that they were upgrading my disk and had to replace the rom drive too??

i would get them on the phone and ask them exactly what they plan on doing to your car...

I'd unplug it to reset it first. If that doesn't help then:
*unplug it again without the disk in there and wait a few minutes
*plug it back in and insert new disk

I've gone through all these headaches before

I think they told me that’s what they did when I had it in there last week. But that was with the old disk. I don’t believe they are replacing the drive as well. They said they just ordered the new disk. The drive seems to be working fine.

If there was an install or setup they had to go through then the hour that they said it would take would be a little more understandable (although that would probably not take even more then 5 min).

I am just trying to avoid a situation where all they do is switch the old disk with the new one and I am at the dealer for an hour and because they are slow.

Yeah that doesn't sound right. I would just ask the dealer if they are slow or what the deal is. If they are just ejecting one disk and puttin in another why does that take an hour??

Then that's odd. Unless there's something I don't know about the Navi yet there isn't a set up for simply using a newer disc regardless if it's an older version or a new one or the same.

Press button disc pops out. Insert new disc. Enjoy.

They might mean an hour including the wait time. When you get there, they usually dont take your car in right away as there are probably cars there before you. In that kind of business, you always say a little longer then what it would take. This way if they finish earlier, they look good in your eyes. If they tell you 10 min and end up having it for an hour, youll be mad but if they say one hour and have it ten minutes then you will think they are awsome.

Why not call the dealer and ask exactly what they intend doing at this service?

Nothing sounds right here. The dealer has a disk they can use to test your navigation device. They should already have done this (before ordering a new disk and asking you to possibly waste an hour waiting). I assume they did this diagnostic test since they are ordering a new disk for you.

Obviously they are not planning to replace the DVD drive inside the navigation device since that requires pulling the unit which takes longer than 60 minutes. And, I doubt the dealer will replace the drive; instead they would replace the entire unit. The problem you describe is either an easy and fast fix, or it’s a new navigation unit.

I've never waited for less than a hour at the dealership (even for a simple oil change).
