Default Couple Questions(Getting Z on Saturday)

Well here is my main concern, i have an alpine IDA-x001 and im looking to install it into the z i will be getting on Saturday which is a brand new 07 daytona blue enthusiast. Now my question is do i need anything to put the head unit in. i know i will need the wiring harness and the bracket thing, but is the head unit compatible with the stock speakers and its just a plug and play thing? So i wouldnt need a different amp or new speakers just the headunit is what im asking

I think what Z04 is trying to say is that we have a very robust A/V forum, with many many gems of information hidden in there if you look in the correct places. There are also helpful people in there that will answer questions if you've researched them first. I'm not an A/V guy, and can't really help, but from reading the A/V forums I can tell you that if you have a Bose system in the car you're going to need an adapter to get good sound out of an aftermarket headunit...

Good hunting, dear sir.

If the head unit contains a power amplifier you are good to go.

You will need to chase this thread since a my350z.com Moderator will certainly move this to the Audio & Video Forum.

Your Enthusiast has an OEM Clarion CES. The OEM H/U is low quality and begs for replacement. You can install the Alpine H/U, but you will only get marginally better sound; but a lot better reception on your terrestrial radio, and of course a lot more features that the Alpine provides.

The next steps:
  • Replace the cheap front OEM Clarion component speakers. Just about anything will sound better
  • Replace the cheap OEM Clarion coaxial rear speakers (or simply disconnect the rears since you don’t need them)
  • Add an external amp. The large cubby behind the driver’s seat is a good spot to mount your external amp.
  • Investigate adding a SubW (lots of options here).
  • Search the Audio & Video subforum on my350z.com for lots of ideas and advice.

This is a picture of your OEM Clarion front component midrange.

You can see why you want to replace this with a decent component speaker.

I've got a 07 SMB. I just got the X100 (newer version of same thing; killer display on that); it required wiring harness and a dash kit. It's got a built in 40Wx4 Amp.

I found the sound quality even w/ stock speakers much better. Later on, I might add bluetooth, hd radio or satellite, and MIGHT replace the speakers in stock locations. I think that's about as far as I'd be willing to go. I don't have any desire to blow out my ears.
