Default any opinions on police scanners?

I talked to a guy at school about a Uniden scanner which gives a beep or a light when a cop is within range. New Uniden scanners also has a unit which scans digital as well so I’m just wondering if it is a good investment. So what is your opinion on this?

Currently I'm using a V1 and soon shopping for a laser jammer (escort ZR3 shifter or blinder).

It doesn't make sense. CB waves are everywhere and stay strong over several miles. How would a scanner know a cop is nearby? Besides, CBs are used by nearly all truckers. How would you tell them apart from cops on say, a highway?

I have a handheld scanner. a Uniden one that I picked up from WalMart. Was around $100 and had something about Nascar on the package. I tune it into the local PD frequencies and listen. Also have one stationary one in the house, a bigger unit. Have that going quite a bit.

Scanners are legal here. Just can't have them on while the car is moving... But I only listen to it at home anyway. 100% legal at home.

each county has their own PD band....and you can save the settings for each. so when you are within a certain range, it will detect.

Most cops in Canada now use encrypted digital signals anyways.. So check your area before buying one if thats your purpose. Cause there basically useless.
