Wouldn't really call the Z "top of the line", most infiniti vehicles and the GTR all rank higher on the cost scale. Still, you would think for the price that the stock stereo wouldn't be so terrible.

Yes, they have the same parent company, but he did say Nissan specifically. Nonetheless, it's because they are trying to kick start our economy by forcing us to buy aftermarket products due to their crap Bose stuff.

Nissan designed the 350Z for a broad market, all the way from someone who wants to track the car to buyers looking for a great “GT” car. With this in mind, Nissan gives you a minimal CES (and that is true for the Bose “upgrade” as well). The inexpensive OEM Clarion CES begs for replacement (and the Bose “upgrade” isn’t much better).

The idea is that a buyer who wants a car they can run on the track has little interest in adding weight and elaborate AV equipment. A buyer who wants a “GT” car can replace the cheap stuff with a high-end system.

The stock 350Z is a “palette” that you add customization (whether it is AV equipment, wheels and tires, engine mods, etc.).
