Default Confused... Please help...

Lots of posts on custom sub enlosure to fit in the stock location.
My sub requires a 0.75cf. In all the posts I see the largest enclosure is measured at 18X14X6.5... this will yield Internal volume of 16.5X12.5X5 which is just about 0.6cf...
What should I do in order to have an internal volume of 0.75cf and still be able to fit the box in the stock location...

By the way guys anyone knows what are these 2 brackets inside the sub stock location (the ones at the upper side?) I kinda want to get rid of them, hopefully get more space...

Thats my box. I got it to be about .75cf (more or less) I say about cause theres no real way to measure my fiberglass bottom since its follows the contours of the stock area. I tried to remove the two bracket with no luck. I took a chisel and hammer too it and all I mange to do was just bent it a bit. Unless you got a plasma torch its gonna be tough to get rid of those brackets.

Plus any bigger than my dimension (height wise) It will not fit due to the brackets. I had to do some creative insertion to get the box in and sitting right (shifting it up, back, etc..) True if you got rid of the bracket, sub box installation would be so much easier.

Check your sub specs again, I think .75 is for a large box. you can get away with a .6 or .55 internal cu ft.

Default Few things to think about as well

Do the figures in the specs for CF on sub enclosures include the airspace that is displaced by the size of the magnet ? That would increase the size of the box considerably - Depending on what sub you choose.

Another trick is to use packing peanuts to fill in an enclosure, or in youre case, the stock sub location - Fill it in as much as you can, Then take all of the peanuts out and put them into a box. Measure the volume and voila ! You have you CF of the location.

Default Magnet vol

Hencho - That is a really good point for the pro's, I have never thought about that... great idea you have for the vol measurement, My sub is fairly small kinda but I am pleased with the sound it produced in the car. I guess I will go with the 0.8cf box that would make me closer given your inputs... Thanks!

I think the magnet is taken into accout in the spec. If I'm not mistake, that sub requires a Theile-Small enclosure. so all the spec should be listed and if it requires a specific internal cubic volume it has be calculated already. If the box is bigger than require, it'll mean more air for the sub to move. and if the sub and amp isn't powerful enough, the bigger box just defeats the purpose of nice, strong bass.

Default Box size

alphared - Have you got yourbox already? If not, note that the measurements I took barely fit in that hole and I doubt if you be able to do that without bending the brackets... my box is 18X14X6.5 (ext). If you made the box, how did it fit?

I have a fiberglass bottom that molds the contours of the stock sub floor. so the height varies from 4.5 to about 7" (front to back)
True if it was just a box, a 6.5" will not fit, that is why I went with fiberglass. Any bigger than 7" and you will not be able to fit in inside the stock area cause there would be no room to rotate it.
My box has an internal volume of .6 - .65. Hard to measure with the fiberglass bottom. bottom was basically a triangle so thats how I did my calculations. My sub require a volume of .55 to .7 cu ft. so I'm somewhat in between that range and its more than what I need. Half way crank and my rear view mirror shakes, 3/4 and i'll never have kidney stones
