Viper Alarm 790
Hello all,
I previously did a search on aftermarket alarms and narrowed it down to the Viper 690 or 790. Quick question since it was mentioned before but never answered....What do you have to do to make the 790 do remote start on a 6 speed? I'm guessing this is illegal in california since all the dealers i talked to said they dont do it or not possible on a 6 speed. Thanks ahead for the info.

I have the 790 installed on my 6sp manual. I believe you have to bypass the clutch for the starter. But yes to answer your question it is possible and has been done.

I have a 790XV, did NOT install the remote start.
A) It cost much more to install (complex).
B) You HAVE to remember to leave the car in neutral always. Some very smart guy could take a signal off the clutch switch (the one that won't let the car start when the clutch is up) but I don't think the alarm knows how to use this.
C) You have to leave a key in the car. They can attach it to the steering wheel (hidden away) or you can buy a module that gets programmed. Either way, you LOOSE the security of the key chip.
So by now you are paying extra money to defeat one of the security features of the car... didn't work for me.

can someone direct me to a site or some place where I can get a wiring diagram for the Z? I am either going to attempt to install a hornet 453t or a viper 790 over the weekend....Thanks!

Where do you get this module? It was my understanding that the only thing that can program anything is the car and it can only program a cut key. This pissed me off becuase I was able to get an uncut key for my acura but this was not an option with the Z.

i got the 690XV which is basically the 790 w/o the remote start. Since i have a 6 speed, most installers are would not install it because of liabilities. I got a back up battery/alarm and a electronic tilt switch to save guard my rims. DEI makes good system. the only complaint is that the alarm only comes with one remote. Would have been nice to have 2 of them.

you DO NOT loose the security of the chipped key when using a remote start bypass module.. for the Z you will need DEI part 555u. You must put one of your spare keys in this module and leave it there (may be hidden deep inside the cars dash board.
the module is only active when the alarm is remote started.
i am sure remote starting a manual tranny car is legal, but the for liability reasons most shops will not do this.
i suggest you ask around and find someone you trust that can install it for you... i can do this myself and would be willing to do other z owners cars as well. just dont come sueing me if you screw up your car by leaving it in gear....i will deny everything
