Weight difference would be minimal. Unless you are trying to do free air enclosure and in which casewould not result in a good bass responce in the glove box location. Weather you build an enclosure for a 10" sub or a 6" sub yuou still need to build an enclosure the weight difference would be minimal.
Our fiberglass enclosure is about 9 lbs.

I am just trying to save you the headache and be upfront with you. weather you buy our enclosure or not. If you want to spend the time and make an enclosure for a Single 6" driver, even if you get the best driver out there you may find your self disappointed.

We have tried many different set ups in the 350Z and now have 4 diferent types of enclosures.

If you end up doing a 6" setup you may want to try doing 2x6" or 3x6" that will give youthe responce you will be happy with. (we have an enclosure with 3x6" subs ifor a Supra and it definitely sounds real good, but it is no single 10 or dual 10)

I would be anxious tosee if you go ahead and build a 6" enclosure and see how it would sound. Good luck...

If this is going to be too much trouble to do correctly... then it will be too much trouble, end of story. I'll come up with another idea. I am not looking to push any major SPL, just have some decent depth, apparently that also was not conveyed in the original post.

i hope you are not planning to use the stock rear speaker location.. first of all its not re-enforced enough to give you dept.. its also too close to your ears to give you good balance.. and worse off a 6" won't give you dept..

I have Kickers new 6.5" CVT woofers in my doors being used as midbass drivers and they sound great. I have several layers of Dynamat sealing them up so even when I turn my 10" L7 woofers completely off I get great front stage bass. I'm not too sure of how the specs compare with some of the other speakers mentioned in this thread, but I love them.

suffice to say that the 10" and 12" set ups you heard must be crapola

however on the extreme end Alan Dante is almost hitting 150 db on the TL with 1 each 8"
My previous setup was a 12" RE MX with a properly built box, I've had a 10" TC10OEM, 12" RE Audio XXX, 12" W6V2, a few others. Heard plenty of other setups. Not saying it blew away my 10/12"s but it's pretty damn good/on the same level. I underestimated the 6.5's as well, but after hearing it in person, it really is a different setup. If you don't think 6.5s won't hit lows like the 10"+ subwoofers do think again. I've seen a few setups (but has massive amounts of 6.5s) and you can't imagine how low those babys will go.

I am currently running essentially SIX 5.25" subs in my Z and it digs deeper than many 10" subs on the market today.....all while staying clean and punchy.

Install plays a huge roll in the usable output of any driver.

What are your thoughts on IDQ10? You seem to have a fair knowledge base on SQ subs and such... Just Looking for your opinion...

Why are people busting on JL subs? Mine bang. Removable 2-10" box in the Z (w6's) and 3 12w6s in the Yukon.

Not really busting on JL subwoofers. But 160$ for a single 6.5 sub is insane. The price is just not worth it when there are better that can be had for the price. And the 6.5 probably wasn't up to par with my 12" XXX, but it was pretty damn loud for being in a trunk vehicled, sealed up....

because they are not worth the money..

its like paying $60,000 for a 2008 350z ... yes the Z is a performer.. but its not $60,000 performance

the RE mx has wonderful sound quality

but it left me wanting way more as far as the output is concerned

as far as 6.5" mids and 8 " mids these are great

I have decided against this project. It was just an idea from the beginning. I did not intend for this topic to become an argument between the best brands and what size to use. Thank you to those who provided legit info and helped me determine this wasn't the best course to pursue.
