Default Crappy Radio Signal

I do not have a stock head unit, but the radio just does not come in well at all. It is more static than anything, XM radio comes in very well, but the normal radio is crap any suggestions? Also i have checked all the wiring to and from the antenna, everything is kosher, this just pisses me off a little that i cant listen to normal radio. I have an alpine head unit if that helps anyone.

that's how mine was when I first got it. I ended up buying an s2k antenna and it actually works better. I think it may be your connection with the antenna. If you unscrew it you could try cleaning the contact surfaces, that could help?

Connect +12 VDC to the antenna amplifier and see what happens.

The stock headend sent +12 VDC to the small amplifier mounted just under the antenna. Without power it likely induces a loss now rather than a gain. My stubby Honda S2000 antenna has poor signal levels compared to my longer stock antenna. The 1/4 wave length for FM is about 30 inches.

Hello,

Not sure if you fixed your problem, but what paul350z said might be your problem. I had the same issue a long time ago until I realized the antenna required power. best of luck.
