Default No sound coming from sub?

Yesterday, i installed my sub and amp that ive had laying around from my previous car. Im running the pioneer avic-n1 with a crunch amp and planet audio 10" sub in a small custom box that i just threw in my trunk. Everything is wired up correctly (i.e. remote wire, audio input, power, ground, speaker wires..) but for some reason i dont get any sound coming out of the sub even though the amp powers on. I thought maybe there was an option for an audio output when playing with the settings of my HU, but there isnt. There is only an option for switching up the audio input to av or m-video. If i hit the button on the headunit that says "rear" the sub will turn on and play music even if i have the volume all the way down to zero. Any suggestions..

The picture belows shows the button im talking about. I know you cant read it but it says "rear on". the button only works when a cd is playing, not when im playing music through my ipod or radio.

Are the RCA's hooked up to the subwoofer output on the headunit?

the amp is turning on, maybe your gain. check the rca's. maybe a speaker cable is not properly connected. just check all your connections and setting on the head unit and amp.
some head unit have a setting where you can control the input level that is recieved by the sub. just take your time

Default sub

make sure you check the connections inside the box too. I had to fight with my old system for about two hours before I checked the simple stuff and low and behold...

I am almost 100% positive that everything is connected tight and securely. I usually make sure while im in the process of connecting everything. The weird thing is, that the sub only turns on when i hit the "rear on" button but only when a cd is playing. AND, like i said on the OP, when i hit the "rear on" button, the volume is set, and not adjustable. The sub will still play with the volume set to zero.
