It’s all about personal preference. I like “stealth.” Someone else may like “show.”

For car entertainment systems … for me it’s all about the sound. I think the components and the wiring are better heard than viewed.

For sure I never want any wiring showing. But, I certainly understand your point. It’s just not my preference.

The 500/1 is a perfect match considering the RMS of 10W7 is just above 500 watts. On the other hand though I didn't do anything to my electrical system so other words it is stock and both amps have a safety measure installed, when power drops below 12v they will shut off until power is brought back up above that cutoff. When I hit a long base line maybe 10secs they shut off so I either need a cap or a quick draining fast recharging battery that can supply more juice, I'm thinking two batcaps in the place of my vehicle battery. Has anyone dealt with batcaps? Thanks for the input everyone and sorry about the "ugly wires", I didnt know how to build and amp rack for the cubbys and plus I like to be able to see the amps everytime I look into the rear view mirror, gives me a sense of achievement cause I been wanting all JL for the past 7 years or so and now my hard has work paid off.

 

Thats weird....I'm running a more powerful setup and I have yet to have a voltage problem.....what gauge wiring are you using to power and ground your amps? And for the amp rack keep in mind that when you mount amps in there it doesnt have to be pretty but does need to be functional. My ugly *** amp rack works. I glad you like your system. I hope anyone here can help you with your problem. (not bad for typing on pills)

 

I'm running 4 gauge power and ground, my distribution block has a digital volt meter on it and it does drop below 12v on occasions, that is when the amps will go into stand by mode until the power is resumed above 12v. I assume it is because I need a capacitor or a better battery maybe someone can tell me different if I am wrong.

 

The only time I see 12v or less is then the engine is not running, and i almost always start my car up when I do anything with my system. When the engine is running even at idle I see a consistent 14v. Make sure your connections are good you have a good ground, and you might want to have your alt checked out. I just cant seem to think why your voltage is low. You have an 07-08 right?

 

It isnt always low, when I start im running usually between 13.6-13.9 which is normal but when I have a steady bass line I can watch the voltage slowly drop and the only think I can think of is my electrical sys. needs to be altered a bit not support a constant 800watt RMS.

 

Did the sound deadening material quiet things down much? I put some in the spare tire well, wheel wells, and cubbies (where people mount their amps), but it's still awfully loud. It looks like you used quite a bit.

 

Like I said I'm at a complete loss on why your voltage is low. I'm pushing 1085w rmsand no problems, some guys are running more then me and no problems. Hope everything works out.

 

I've got a 1000/1 powering my W7 and a 350w 2 channel alpine amp for my components. I don't have a cap or anything like that. I use my Escort 8500 radar detector as a volt meter and even listening to drum and bass at ridiculously high levels, I never see the power drop below 13.6.

 

I think I need to relocate my ground. I just watched a video from element designs and they said a common mistake is grounding your amp to a bolt under a seat belt harness and that is what I did. They recommend sanding the paint down and drilling self tapping screws directly into the body of the vehicle.

OP, whats up with your voltage, i have the exact same setup and my voltage sits right around 14-14.5 with it slamming consistently. i threw a old 1.5 farad cap on it just for fun and to keep my lights from dimming when its pulling allot.

Classified, are those nazar door pods?If they are they look nice... how did you mount them ? Dont they have to be molded into the door or something?

 

My floor mat thingy no longer fits in the rear due to the box I installed so I guess I need to cut one out of some thin plywood and insert it. Maybe I will relocate the amps since I got so much hell for their placement. Regardless the sound from this system is second to none imo.
