Piecing Together a Decent SQ System
I've been hunting down bargains (mostly used equipment) over the last two weeks and this is what I have so far:
Head Unit: Alpine 9887
Front stage Amp: JL Audio 300/4
Sub: FI Q10 D1
Sub Amp: JL Audio 500/1
Enclosure: Zenclosure Understrut Box
Still trying to decide on speakers -- and where to put them. I have a line on some brand new Hertz HSK 165's for a decent price, but I'm not sure if the 300/4 is going to put out enough juice to keep the HSK's happy. I'm looking at door pods, rather than kicks, since I don't think I could live without my dead pedal.
Thoughts on speakers or speaker placement -- or just general comments about the system? You guys can bang on me for using the JL amps, but I got a great price on them and I think they will do the job -- or at least give me a good place to start from.

the 300'/4 is a bit underpowered for a top notch SQ set up, but it will do fine, with that 9887, you can do an active two way front and have T/A right?
if so, i suggest A pillar tweets, and i guess door pods. i know someone with a set of Hertz MLK165 for sale, almost in new shape and with extra midbasses
a major step above hte HSK

Yes, the 9887 can run 2 or 3 way active with T/A -- and it's got a killer DAC, too. I am assumng that you suggesting the A pillar location because I can use the T/A to blend and adjust the sound stage? That is a great suggestion -- thanks!
The MLKs are out of my range for now -- I can't see spending $500 on speakers with the power that I am going to be running. Do you have speaker suggestions (sets or sperates) that would sound decent with the 300/4? I am considering trying the ID CTX 6.5 mids with some Seas Neo silk tweeters. I think those might sound pretty decent with the 300/4.
