Default Stereo items for direct replacement + a new HU? Help me out...

I am interested in replacing 100% of my Blose audio system
in my '03 touring. I would like a new (used) headunit, similar
to an avic D3 or other DD (feel free to rec something). I need
to know what parts I should purchase, including periphal items
such as cable, any other accessories, etc. I have searched
the site for a few hours and did not find a part for part replacement
which worked for me. I do not want to enclose a sub under my
strut bar. I would like to literally remove all existing components
and wiring, and have the entire system replaced. I listen to bass
heavy music, but do not require anything extraordinary sound-
wise. Can you guys propose a list of items? Looking to spend
roughly $750-$1000 + cost of headunit.

All your thoughts please!

Thanks ahead... as always///

Head unit: AVIC-D3
Nissan factory wiring harness: Metra 70-7550
Double DIN mounting kit: Metra 99-7602 (2006+), 99-7402 (2003-2005)
Steering wheel control box: PAC SWI-PS
Radio shack resistors for the steering wheel controls: a couple bucks

I'll leave the speakers and possibly amplifier for someone else, as they're very subjective. The AVIC-D3 has a good enough amp that you could use factory speakers until you have picked a serious upgrade.

Link to the AVIC-D3 install thread

That thread really covers everything you need to know, including an exceptional picture of the wiring harness prep.
