Default Do I need to wire my HU to the battery?

I know this has come up before with some of the Alpine units, but my situation is a little different. I'm going to be running a set of components up front off of a 2 channel amp. The HU sends 18 watts RMS, and has a max rating of 50 watts.
My question is this...if I'm going to just be running the fronts, and they will be run off of an amplifier, do I still need to wire the HU to the battery?

Also, do I need to bother connecting the front speakers to the wiring harness kit? All of the signal will be sent through the RCA patch, into the amplifier, through the crossover, and into the speakers...correct?

Thanks guys!

Cool..thanks for the help!

I just pieced together a system for about $525. I got:

Slightly used Panasonic CQ-DVR592U HU
brand new Eclipse 33200 2 channel amp 130watts x2 at 4 ohms
brand new CDT HD62 components

I think I did pretty well for myself.
