So we've concluded the the bose system in the 03 Z sucks, what i'm wondering now is... is it the head unit/amp that is the the problem? Or is it the speakers... or all of it!?

The reason i'm asking is... i like the look of the stock head unit, i know i can get better sound from an aftermarket unit, but i haven't yet seen an single din head unit install in a Z that was appealing to my eye.

Can i see any sound quality improvement over stock if i replace only the stock speakers?

simple answer is "yes". The entire Bose system sucks.

In Bose equipped cars (in general not Z specific) replacing the headunit can yield some decent results. But to get anything worthwhile you really need to replace it all...guess that really depends on how much of an audiophile you are. I personally have just kept the stock system as I don't see the investment as worthwhile...esp when I read the posts noting "My stereo got stolen, and my window got smashed..." that **** is depressing, and would likely send me into a killing spree which wouldn't be good....so I just kept the stock crap.

Pathetic part is my wife's 08 Scion tC has a 300x better stereo than my Z which ran 2x the money new to new.

 

I had pioneer D1 on my car all the time and recently I wanted to clean out my car so I got the bose system.. holy ****.. it's soooooooooooo terrible.. I think its because I'm missing bose sub and amp too.. TERRIBLE.

 

I updated the head unit and it makes the system more than bearable until I save up enough money to burn and replace the rest of the BLOSE system.

 

well that sucks... what gives Bose?

 

This is not a new development...bose car stuff sucks...always has from the cars I've owned/driven/listened to...
