I recently have the Kenwood 8120 installed with Kenwood rear view camera. when i put it in the reverse, the camera comes on and i can see clearly. My installer also told me he hooked up the camera to the rear cam and video 1.
The Kenwood8120 manual claim when you hold the nav button for >1 sec, it should switch to the rear cam view. When i do that, i see the display header showing
R-CAM Mode:Full AVOut:AV-IN1
but with a black screen....
do i need to setup the Nav button or something?? Don't tell me i need two diff cam...
HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Umm......
Have you talked to your installer? I would do that way before I would post this on a public forum. I know your installer is very knowledgeable and I am sure he is more than willing to help you out with this issue.

we discussed this acutally...
and apparently, kenwood wants you to have TWO cameras if you want to have one that come up on back up and also an image come up on normal driving, versus the pioneers i am used to whcih can call up rear view on normal driving.
i guess the only other solution i see is hooking up the cam so its on all the time, the reverse wire to acc, but i am not sure how advisable that is .
one more thing is that even if we manage to have the signal come on in video 1, that means you cant listen any music while you watch this...where as the pioneers is a matter of the nav side doing it, so the audio portion doesnt get affected.
dennis, htere is a guy on diy that seems to be really knowledgable on the unit, lets see if he know

I would suggest putting the camera on a switch and have it come on the reverse signal. This is how I have done it. I can either have it switch when I am backing up which is default or while I am driving I can throw a switch and see who is tailgating me. That way I have both options at my fingertips.
I already responded to ops PM, but just an FYI
There is an input in the video harness on the 8120 that for the reverse camera. Other people that I know that have the same HU have missed it. I missed it when In installed mine. After that it's just a matter of finding the right setting. Hope this helps

I hope this does not get confusing, but here it goes. First you only need to have ONE camera, hooked up to the back up video input only. You must have the purple/white wire on the head unit harness hooked up to the reverse lights. There is also a purple/white wire on the back up camera harness. If you want the back up camera to show up when you push the Nav button for more than 1 sec, this wire must be hooked up to the accessory wire. If you hook the purple/white wire on the camera harness to the reverse lights you will no be able to see the image when you push the NAV button for more than 1 sec. You also need to get into the set up menu of the unit and select the back up camera as the image for the Nav button for more than 1 sec. The two options you have are (back up camera and off) As you can see if it is selected as off you will not see anything. Now going back to the above statement if the back up camera harness purple/white wire is connected to the reverse lights, even if you push the NAV button for more than 1 sec you still will not be able to see the image because the car is not in reverse and the camera is not turning on. This is why you connect it to the accessory wire. That way the camera is always on when the car is on so you can view it anytime you want when you push the button. The image will still automatically show up when you put it in reverse, becuase the headunit is still wired to the reverse lights. Hopes this makes sense.
