Sony wx770-mdx aux input problem
Just got my sony put into the Z. I also had my Delphi XM SkyFi installed in the nav area. The only problem is that is sounds like crap!
It has a bad hiss to it and sounds like it is missing some midrange. I know that it is not the amps or other equiptment as the CD sounds great. Also, I get three bars, so it is not the signal strength.
The installer used the inputs marked as bus. And it does switch when the source is set to aux.
Any ideas? I spent a ton on the install, so this is disappointing. Maybe I need to use the fm modulator?
PS, as a side note, I found that the antennas in the car kit will fit inside the rear brace housing.

Sorry to hear that....especially since I am planning almost the same set up. I think you problem is you should be using the Sony XT-XM1 satellite components instead of the delphi. The 7700 MDX is XM capatible so you don't need a separate tuner or FM modulator. I am pretty sure the Delphi requires an FM modulator and is used primarily for adding XM to a stock system. Surprised you installer didn't know this. If you get the XT-XM1 you will get the benefit of digital quality sound. Might as well take advantage of the XM capabilities of you HU. Can't tell you for sure how great it is but I will know a week from now when I do my install. I strongly suspect this would take care of your problem. Make the installer refund you for the Delphi and order the correct components.
Also, could you eloborate on the placemant of the XM antenna. You put it inside the rear brace and it still works? That's surprising.
Thanks

Also, do you think a GPS antenna would also work inside the rear brace? I am installing an Alpine NAv and it would be great to have
totally stealth atenna installations.

Yeah, it is inside the rear brace cover. You cannot see it at all. Also the signal strength is always three bars for me, which is as good as I have ever gotten.

How bad will it sound if I use a modulator?
Any ideas why the aux input would sound so bad? It has a ton a static and hiss even when the XM is turned off.

I don't really know cause I don't have the HU installed yet. I'll
be using the aux for DVD and using the the HUs unilink for XM.
Sounds like the dilemma is you already have the Delphi so you want to use it. Have you tried the modulator yet? I've heard people say their XM sounds great even with a FM modulator. If Delphi requires one then that certainly could be your problem.
You could try hooking up another source (portable cd player etc)
to the aux to determine if the aux input is bad but I doubt that's your problem. I wouldn't expect the Delphi to sound good if it requires a modulator and your not using one. Also, remember you can always get the Sony Xt-XM1 satellite receiver so you don't need a modulator or additional tuner.
