Default Subwoofer Idea - Please give advice

I was thinking of putting a solobaric truck box in the trunk of my 350z- since it would fit nicely, and I wouldnt have to pay $$$ for a custom box. Here is a link to what I'm considering-

http://www.crutchfield.com/cgi-bin/S...=1&cc=01&avf=Y

has anyone tried putting a truck box like this in the 350 ?

any advice is much appreciated !

IF you buy it, go to ebay and get it for (potentially) half off. It does not look like it can produce a ton of deep, loud bass just by looking at how shallow it is. But it might suit your needs.

Default i like ebay also

thanks for the ebay advice. i am a big fan of buying car audio on ebay - but i like to browse for it on sites like crutchfield first, then buy it someplace else cheaper.

i am surprised nobody else has tried a truck box in the Z - or at least nobody i have seen.

it seems like a fairly cheap solution to putting decent bass in the Z.

off topic - i'm getting katzkin leather installed this week, i'll be putting some pics up soon

you noted that this box is shallow - although, kicker has designed it to be wider and taller than normal boxes to compensate for the shallowness of it.

isnt the most important size issue with sub enclosures the volume inside the box, not the depth ?

I dunno. My Bostons 10.5 take only 1/2 cubic ft, and they hit pretty deep.. I have yet to put them in the Z tho...

Yes ... cubic feet is way more important that dimensions. The box just looked really small to me, but if it was designed and built by the sub manufacturer, then im sure it will be fine.

It's just that I have seen way too many situations where a sub was mounted in a box without enough air, and the speaker sounded only slightly better than the 6.5" cones within the vehicle doors.

I think that if your enclosure falls within the recommended cubic feet specs as stated by the sub manufacturer, and the box is truly sealed, or properly ported, then it should sound pretty good (depending on the sub amp etc.). When I built a box for my Kicker CVR 15, the instructions told me to push the cone of the sub in, then let it go. If it took less than 5 or 6 seconds to retract back to a normal position, then the box was not sealed very well. Once I acheived this, (and after putting in a whole package of microfill), the bass was amazingly deep and rich. I could usually feel the hairs on the back of my neck move as the music hit deep lows, because that sub woofer was moving all of the air within the car. It was awesome!

I haven't read yet ... where someone has put a sub in their Z and acheived deep bass. I hope its not too difficult to acheive this with the accoustical properties of the car. Maybe dynomat is needed ... who knows. I'll find out within a few weeks though.

I like the idea of buying a Kicker "loaded box" (as they call them) - because kicker has built them and sealed them - with a design that is specific to the speaker in the box.

I don't want to make the mistake of buying my own box/speaker - and having it sound less than optimal.
