Since we're on the DLS topic and amplifiers, has anyone tried to drive it with a head unit instead? I'm looking at the Kenwood DDX812, and I may drive a set of DLS components using the head unit. It's a space issue since I plan to use a single NINE.2 to power a 12" eD subwoofer. Otherwise, I'd find space in the trunk for an additional NINE.2 to drive the DLS components as well.

If you are going to use DLS UP6 I wouldn't even consider using only the head unit for power.. I can't speak for their other lines, but my UP6 set is very power hungry. If you are bent on using the head unit for power, I would consider something a little more efficient..probably not from DLS.

That being said, I fit both a Nine.2 and a Nine.2x (HUGE, btw..) in the driver's side cubby without too much effort. So there is room, depending on how you are planning your installation.

+1 on the nine.2. That's what powers my UP6s.

Should I be excited for my components? LOL. These are going tobe my first set, as well as my first set of speakers for a car in general. This is only my third car (im 20) and te Z deserves them. Not to mention, I just hate turning up te volume, and hearing good ol' distortion! Terrible.
Im going to dynamat the doors as well. I bought the dynamat extreme door kit, and I think it should be enough. What do you guys think?

ohfourzee, please let us know your results. Can you share information of your setup? It's easy to plan, but I can't determine the sound quality since I can't test this stuff locally.

For my Z33 I have a set of BA and it sounds muddy and low grade. The rears are MB coaxial reference, and it sounds so much better than the front. O_o

Lesson learned... time to experiment with brands I've never tried since I've not messed with audio stuff in over 5 years. I'm planning an audio build for the 370Z with DLS, eDesign, and Kenwood Excelon in mind. It is a 2-way setup for the front only, so I want to make sure I don't end up with cruddy door speaker audio quality again.

The headunit will be Kenwood DDX812 for its 13-band EQ as well as other adjustment parameters. I only know this on paper. If possible, I may pull it apart to do some minor modifications (i.e., swap out op amps with Burr Brown OPA2107 or OPA627).

Although the Ultimate Nobelium 6.2 is $660 retail, someone on Ebay has a brand new set for a great low price because he couldn't fit them in his car. Else, I can probably settle for UP6i for $330.

If I can fit these components, the sub will be a eD 5.12 (current preproduction) with a pair of NINE.2 for the sub and front speakers.

what to do. Roughly 20 days left before auction ends for the Nobelium.

For sure ill post after I install them. I am unable to test them locally as well, but went with what people on here suggest and have proven results. Instead of fussing with the rears, I just spend more on the fronts and amp. I have the Pioneer F700BT which I love, and got it for 500$ shipped on crutchfield (its back up to 650 or something).
My only dilemma now is where to mount the amp and / or what shap / size / etc. rack to build for it.

Pioneer F700BT
6.5 DLS UP6
JL Audio 300/2 Amp
Dynamatted doors
Tweeters mounted in the kick panels
