Avic d3 Is it true....??
Is it true that you have to take ur dvd out and put in the navigation dvd in order to use the navigation? Anyone else has anymore pros and cons to this device before I grab it? I was goin to save a little more and get a dnx7100 yet that may take a bit. But for 450 I can pick this up so.... Anyone???

I have a D3 and love it. Yes you have to use a Nav CD to get the map/directions. However once you select your route you can remove the Nav CD and use the CD slot as a CD player. However I just leave the Nav CD in since I listen to my iPod or XM Radio.

So how is it with ipods? I dont care too much about bluetooth stuff. I have the bose original headunit so I am thinking this will be an easy installation. I have a post for someone here in charlotte NC to see if theyd do it for me or knew anyone who did installs. Thanks guys for all your responses.

IMO I would wait till you can get one of the Kenwood units. At my shop we sell about 10 Kenwood nav units to every 1 Pioneer, and the nav disc issue is one of the main reasons. Most everyone also likes the fact that the Kenwood units use Garmin nav which IMO again is easier to use than the Pioneer. Everyone has there own preference, but all the other installers that I work with and all of my buddies that have bought Nav units have ALL gone with either the Kenwood DNX 7100 or the DNX 8120. The 7100 isn't a current model anymore but is still a good unit. The DNX 5120 is comparable in price to the Avic D3, but the only downside to that one is it only has 2 sets of RCA pre-outs vs the D3's 3 sets. Best thing for you to do is to go to a shop that has them all on display so you can play around with them and see what you like, then search around online to find a good price.

I actually prefer the D3 over the F90BT personally. The only thing I don't like about the D3 is the 2 volt pre-out. If you are not running external amplifiers then its a non-issue.

Just get the Kenwood DNX-7100. No nav cd's, you can use custom backgrounds, and it says actual street and place names. Plus the usb drive is amazing, put a flash drive on it with hundreds of songs on it.

I acually still use them simply because I can't stand the sound of even the best MP3 file. My ears are so sensitive to frequencies that MP3 sounds like 8-track to me.
I still use my Ipod though for daily 'background' listening or listening to it at the shop.
