Default Rockford Fosgate T212D2 install issues! PLEASE HELP!

OK so I have a RF T212D2 sub coupled with a t1001bd mono amp. The problem is that it is a 12" sub that needs 8.8" mounting depth (big bastard). ZEnclosures doesn't even offer a 12" enclosure and I'm not trying to cough up $800 for these local audio shops (Everything's overpriced in Atlanta) to make a box that has about $40 worth of material. I just can't reasonably justify that.

The Rundown:
- 12" sub won't fit under sway bar
- Necessary mounting depth won't let me just take out the spare and mount it
- Thought of getting a corner sub enclosure but same issues with mounting depth
- I think I would be able to fit it between the sway bar and rear speakers but once again running into depth issues.

I'll post pics in the morning

Conclusion:
-Damn I wish I just bought a 10" instead!

Any suggestions?

How I want it to fire

The problem... clearence

amp fits perfect!

I would honestly try to see if you can find anyone that will trade you for the same sub in the 10" version. I had the same problem with one of my customers that bought 2 12" subs for the Z before I could tell them that 10s fit much better. They posted an ad on Craigslist and got lucky. It may be far fetched but worth a try, unless you can return/exchange yours if it is still new. I would build you a corner fiberglass box for $400.00, but Atlanta is a little far from me. I did however build a box for a guy using my roomates Z as a template, then shipped it to him in California. I've made lots of pods and boxes for Mustangs and Hondas for people the same way using my cars as templates.

yeah I was thinking about the corner install but I'd have to cut the plastic panel below the floormat. If I wanted to ****** it out for road trips (suitcase), I'd have a huge gaping hole. What's your opinion on having it firing upward between the sway and rear speakers? Do you think it'd be possible? Seen it done with 2 12" subs but they only had a 8" mounting depth from Zenclosures. I figure I can make it a pain in the @ss DIY project.

As for selling it, I've tried to find someone that's had a 10" already but they don't even make the sub in a 10" lol! Sucks right... and a 10w7 isn't even remotely comparable. Maybe 2 would hit like this one. My sub is 1000w rms 2kw peak and bangs like all hell. But I ramble...

Any more suggestions?

We'll considering your wanting to put Rockfords 2nd Biggest sub to the 15 in a Z is wild..I had 2 T1s for awhile...We are an authorized dealer for RF.Considering these subwoofers are very tempermental,if the enclosure isnt near spec they sound completley off.I believe probably due to the surface area seems so small due to the surround these woofers have.

Sealed is a NO NO on this sub...Rockford asks you vent the box with 2.25 cub feet for this woofer and remember right should be around 40Hz is where they tune it about in that enclosure.I've sold and installed 8 or 10 of these...imagine a Ranger extended cab with 3 T215s and a Rockford 40001!

But if you have any questions feel free to message me also.

I know these can get a little finicky if they aren't in the correct air space. It would be possible to do this in the Z but I'd loose a lot of trunk space (I at least want to be able to throw one duffel bag back there lol). I'm thinking if I can fab up a box that will go below the floorboard under the carpet I could achieve this. I know I'd be taking a risk by it not being vented, but it is what it is. I figure if I keep the gain turned all the way down I should be safe. I don't want to beat down the block anymore as I've kind of grown out of the audiophile phase of my life. I paid roughly $1700 for the set up (amp and sub) in an Eclipse GS-T for 2 months and don't want to let it go for $400 or have someone low ball me offers for it. So I'm trying to make due. Its becoming a major headache though

Thanks for the suggestion.

I'm going to take pics of the idea I have placement wise in about 20min. so you can see what I was thinking of.

Ok after searching like crazy I found someone on here that did an auto cad diagram of the enclosure. It measures out to have 1.82 cub ft to it. I know its not spec but I think it just may work. Anyone know of someone in the Atlanta area that won't rape my wallet for making this?

Let me know what you think (instead of installing 2 12" I'd put 1 12" in the middle and a port tube to the side)

These are NOT my AC pics... I wish I kept the forum link that I found them so I could give the guy credit. If anyone else finds it PM me.

New pics up top! Just got in contact with TC customs in Canada but that's the same scenario price wise. Fiberglass enclosure, painted, ported, built to spec. for $600+shipping. AHHHHHH! (Banging head on steering wheel).

Any suggestions?

As you probably know a ported box that is not built very close to spec is nearly impossible to get to sound good. If they recommend 2.25 and you can get only 1.82 MINUS woofer displacement which is just over .2 cubic feet you end up with a box that is 1.6 cubic feet, or about 20% too small. Doesn't sound like much but it makes a huge difference. I built a box for 2 T1 10" subs a while ago and had the same problem with space limitations. My customer had me try a sealed box and it was terrible. My single 10" with less than half the power was quite a bit louder. I then re-built it ported about 15% smaller than spec and it was pretty loud but sounded awfull from an accuracy standpoint. If you have the ability to I would stongly recommend you get a speaker that fits before you spend some big bucks having a box made that might be dissapointing. Just my 2 cents.

good luck getting all your airspace..it is possible...but youl have to cut your little dick off where the spair tire gets the bottle tightend down on with a sawzall..hadda do it to mine..I travel to much I lost the big wowing system.simple clean...and still have side spaces to put 2 or 3 overnight bags my laptop and car cleaning supplies...id sell the T2 and amp...and get something more compact and relys on so much air space..like my Boston equipment 1 cube sealed..FTW!

^ That's a clean set up. I won't lie, I'm not a flashy kind of guy so I was kinda looking for a more stock look. Atlanta auto theft is high, and I've had my car stripped before and don't really want to draw excess attention in certain areas lol.

Thanks for the advice though guys. I've started my build and actually found out I can make 2.21 cf of airspace ported!!!!! It's not 2.25 but I can't really complain ya know. I'll be posting pics of the progress I've made so far.

Oh BTW I can build a 2"x11 port or keep it easy and go with a tube... what's you guys opinion on tubes? Do they make the set up sound like poo?

imo (which dosnt seem to carry much weight in this thread)

slot ports are soooo much nicer, shows that you have attention to detail and are willing to go the extra mile to improve aesthetics and output (widely debated) instead of just attacking a sealed box with a hole saw and some pvc and saying look i have a ported box

in the end its really up to you and your listening preference. make sure you hear several of the builders slot ported boxs before he starts. some people suck at making them and they get the rasp

All opinions are valued here Adam!

Yeah I definitely understand your viewpoint on slotted ports vs. tube. My only concern is how much airspace I would lose by fabing up a slotted port. I think I found someone that will do it for the lowski though. I'll post pics tomorrow.
