Stock bose amp --> component speakers???
Hello everyone, sorry for another upgrade speaker thread..
The story:
After i installed the aftermarket head-unit, i believe the sound has become so much better then stock, but for some reason, those stock speaker sound like they going to blow up.. so i am trying to look for a easy solution (and cheap.. around 250?) to upgrade the sound system..
Currently i am running:
Pioneer Avic-D3 ---> PAC ROEM-NIS2 ---> stock bose amp ---> then all else stock..
here are my questions:
1. should i get a set of component speakers to replace stock front speaker and tweeters? which one would u guys recommend?
2. would the component speakers work with the stock "bose" amp?
3. If yes, how should i connect them? as there have 2 set of line (1 set to stock tweeter, 1 set to stock front speaker) which one should i connect to the cross over ?
4. should i cut the rear speaker line to disable them or leave it alone?
Sorry for my bad english >_<
and thanks every one for helping
Stan

Simply nip off the bose wiring harness at teh speakers. save th existing harness. $$ to replace later. replace all speakers w/ Boston Acoustics SL 60&65 and sub w/D110. Then try Alpine PDX-5 Amp. amp fits in rear glovebox. Tune and and you will enjoy the results. leave existing Bse hdwr in place and rehook -up when time to sell car. Remove super stereo for next car install. Bose sokrs set at 2ohm and don't take upgraded power. their speakers are tuned for their head unit and don't d teh HU justice. I replaced mine with a Pioneer AVH-P5100-dvd.
Update comment:
Yes you ae correct, don't simply snip wires asd you can cause serious shorting problems down stream Wires in my oem BOSE were soldered and so carefully seperating wires, I did snip them, installed quick connecors at each end and then wrapping each wire with protective wire insulation tucked them away. Later, the oem speakers can be reconnnected.
Never play with Mother OHM. Bose is not too friendly here. Sorry for the misleading direction here...OEM harnes very $$$$$

bose uses some weird ohm's for their speakers and amps.. you maybe able to use it but it will sound really low.. PAC may have a converter... but i would just buy an amp for the components
leave the rear speakers.. they are a waste and not needed..

please don't listen to this guy.. cutting OEM wiring can cause shorts and problems with your car and a nightmare for when you want to sell the car or for someone who buy's it.. thats why they sell adapters

The stock subwoofer ('05) vice a mid-level Infinity one.

Here's the inside of the stock four channel "amplifier" ... I'll assume you're not a double E - there is no amplifier in there! There are no power transistors anywhere to be found here meaning that they're using integrated circuit amplifiers good for five to ten watts may be.

1. should i get a set of component speakers to replace stock front speaker and tweeters? which one would u guys recommend?
Yes! I recommend taking your music CD's to a local store and auditioning them yourself. Better yet is to take your CD and listen to the speakers installed in other people's cars - 350Z's if possible. What you like might not be what I like. I bought Infinity Reference Speakers and have been pleased with their quality.
2. would the component speakers work with the stock "bose" amp?
No. From what I understand Bose puts big time equalization curves somewhere in their system and it's likely the amplifier. This would distort the sound response to make up for the "quality" (see above) of their drivers. It also makes up for the sound properties of the car's cabin which is why lots of folks put in an octave band or parametric equalizer.
3. If yes, how should i connect them? as there have 2 set of line (1 set to stock tweeter, 1 set to stock front speaker) which one should i connect to the cross over ?
NEVER use someone else's crossovers. The crossover is designed with the frequency, impedance, and levels to match the components they were designed for. The crossover is a major major major portion of the speaker system too often overlooked.
4. should i cut the rear speaker line to disable them or leave it alone?
I'd just leave it in place taping it up and wire tying it so that it doesn't rattle and then run zip-cord wires to replace them. The speaker wires run from the headend aft to the amplifier and then back forwards to the four speakers. You can by-pass them if you really have to. I did this for about a two week period while waiting for my amplifiers and subwoofer to ship. It made enough noise in the car to keep me entertained for that period.
Here's the color code for what it's worth ('05).

They're a good value IMHO - not the best and far from the worse. I have a major audio problem in that Nissan installed a 300 horse power noise maker under the hood and as soon as I start that thing up the sound level reading inside the cabin goes to 80 dB. That level of constant background noise hides/masks a whole bunch of the music and I'm not willing to sacrifice any of the hearing I have left.
The Infinity speakers sound pretty neutral without an dominate bass or treble response and fit the type of music I listen to (progress rock) at the levels I listen at (>100 dB).
