Default In car PC

I'm looking into taking out the POS bose HU and replacing it with the Xenarc 700TSV connected to an in-car-pc. I wanna put it in the existing double-din area cause i have the Navi already.

any ideas? has anyone tried this already?

I haven't seen an In-car PC that would fit in the dash up front. Mine is in the glovebox behind the passenger seat.

its possible, theres enough room. you need to make your own support. I have my PC in the Slot behind the Passenger seat.

If you want the screen there, it should fit, that area seems bigger than the nav screen area. Don't have the measurments but seems close.

Smile ZcarPC (tm) - more info

Zion800

Did you see the $179 EpiaM10000 ZcarPC (tm)

https://my350z.com/forum/showthread....threadid=39723

Cheaper - way cooler - and plenty of power.

Available at Fry's or on the Web.

Cheers Amy -

The Xenarc VGA cable reaches without an extention cable.

By the way Zion800 - you may want to update your list as the
prices for Xenarc are way out of line - please check Ebay
My Xenarc 700YY non touch was $405 - I use voice actuated Street Atlas 2004

Thanks for the link to the ODB II device.. I'd go USB as my GPRS cell phone is in Com1 - Internet anywhere.

Shop around...those prices are way too high (retail).

For example, you can get a Xenarc T.S. for $350-$550 now depending on model and where you buy it.

Also, a P4 will overheat in your car on a hot day....what kind of additional cooling are you gonna install? Check with Ares and see if he has any problems I think he's running a P4 too. You list an AC power supply you'll need an inverter.

If you are coming from the glove box (routing by the passenger door), you will prolly need about a 10' extension.

Add also a usb or serial extension depending on the touchscreen interface. And Tape and ties. ....FM modulator unless you have RCA plugs in your HU.

You might not need a VGA extension or an extension for the touch-screen. The screen comes with cables that are long enough to reach from the dash to your glovebox area without extensions, at least when routed through the center tunnel, and depending how you situate your PC.

For a hard drive, I've been using a Maxtor 60gb, and no problems since installation about 6 mos ago.

I think I used a couple power cable extensions, at least one for the DVD drive mounted in the mailbox slot.

I'm in Orange County also, so if you want to see one installed (except not in the dash area you are planning), let me know.

I see the Shutdown Controller listed - what are your plans for a power supply?

chazzg- sorry about that...didn't know it was trademarked...i changed it. its a creative name though

regarding the xenarc- that price includes the ultra bright upgrade. i want the ultrabright but couldnt find any other retailers that sold the screen with it

I'm not sure if i'm going to get the shutdown controller. i'm doing a little more research and I can probably get a small ups backup battery. when the power from the car battery cuts out, it will automatically shut down the computer. I saw someone else had done this and it sounds a little easier to do.

Scafremon- did you install it yourself? I wouldnt mind seeing what you've done to your car

http://www.spysupply007.com/

They have the brightness upgrade.

http://home.comcast.net/~zootjeff/shutdown/

you can get a shutdown controller here.
I think the backup battery would be harder to install, cause you need to hook it up someway to the main battery to get it recharged.

Well...I'm getting farther along with my research...but I've run into some inconsistancies.

Here are my questions

1) What are the dimensions of the Bose head-unit (or area where it resides)
2) What are the dimensions of the Xenarc 700TSV without the casing on it
3) Is the Bose head-unit double-din?

Thanks,
Michael

I don't have the physical dimensions, but maybe the following 2 pics will help.

The first pic is the dash console removed, and double-sided tape placed around the opening for the screen.

This pic shows the screen in place. It fits almost from edge-to-edge of the console.

Nav...sorry... I had forgot what your plan was.

I can measure the Xenarc case I removed, and give you those inside dimensions if you want.

ah....since youre in OC....do you know anyone who knows how to plaster well or work with plexi-glass, who would be able to make something custom for me to put in my dash?

I'm having trouble finding experience people around here...Since the Xenarc wont just easily fit into the dash..i need something to border it and fit into where the Bose is right now...

The inside dims of the Xenarc front piece are 4.625" x 7.5".
