Smile ZcarPC - Xenarc VGA, EpiaM10000, DC2DC

Hello all:

Sorry for the delay on the photo's of WLD350Z 's custom installation of the ZcarPC in my CS Touring. When I bought my
Z in January, I was told the Factory Nav could be added later.
My part's man calculated the parts to be about $1900 and required replacement of main wiring harness. This may not be the case in Touring model. I don't know.

The prototype ZcarPC used a composite display, which had good daytime brightness ( approx. 320 NIT ) but was unable to read text in Deloreme Street Atlas 2003.
The qualified VGA screen was a Xenarc - Non Touch Screen.
One VGA, 2 Composite, one Audio ( to micro speaker )
Native resolution is 800x600 but it does auto adjust to input frequency.

Felt strips Epoxied in place. One side one strip, other two strip.

These tiewraps are important to secure VGA and Power Cables.

Software was preloaded Windows 2000 Pro on 40 Gig Hitachi laptop disk drive.
Computer photo's - Notice DC2DC 120 Watt power supply - near fan.

Drive and RF modulator freq 89.1 FM

Lexan supports PCI Wi-Fi card - internet in your driveway 11Mb.

512 Meg DDR Memory by Corsair.

Velcro Industrial - notice holes avoid chassis bolts.

In the Driver's side behind Bose Woofer.

Totally wired. Small sealed cell 12V battery, and charging Isolation device added (not shown) About $40
Automatic startup sequencer, auto shutdown after a predetermined time. (Not shown) actually isolates PC from main battery. About $40

This is your Bose Woofer Amp - It's so little..

Running PC

At my350z S.D. Run - Several hours of DVD (playing Hello Kitty)

As I said Labor intensive WLD350Z second ZcarPC - All parts removed and install with out breaking or scratching one part.

10 or 12 Gauge wire must be run from the battery compartment.

Traction Control System Module

Keyboard can stow behind Seat - main control is USB Touch Pad
Mounted on Coin / Ashtray - Microphone added in driver's headrest controls Street Atlas 2003.

To do a clean install many interior parts must be removed.

See the little pink pointed item on the left of photo. These are used in Side panels, Doors, rear lid, etc. Get a dozen or so for your spare parts box. Also the push locks used in the facia and many other locations. This is the Deloreme USB GPS Unit again.

These are the parts.... Just like building a Clone PC.. DVD/CD player - choose a front loader, no tray.

What is that 24Volt, auto Iris, security Camera for.. Next Chapter folks.

For internet access anywhere I run a Samsung V205 Cell Phone
( T-Mobile 600 Minutes $39.95 - Wireless Citi - Little Saigon )
with a Serial Data Cable. The software is GPRS Wizard - which uses the Global Packet Radio System as the carrier. This is an old
radio packet system for Amatures. Used today for low level communications. I was in the mountains above the OVMC hospital and popped my e-mail in the car.

And Surfed the Web for www.my350z.com Hi Iris! and Crew !

Faster Phones are LG VX6000 with a 153,000 bit digital modem,
are now available with Verizon - Heard T-Mobile piggy backs Verizon Digital network, and ATT Global

WLD350Z - Redline Performance VDC/TCS Suspension Test Vehicle.
Hint - A very Merry Christmas 2003, for you Willow Springs / Buttonwillow / Laguna Seca type Z-Car sports racers.
wld350z@sbcglobal.net

Cheers Amy -
amy@amycroft.com

Labor intensive. The Deloreme USB GPS antenna had it's yellow case removed and mounted nicely under the plastic rear strut tower bar.

Fry's $129 bundled with Street Atlas 2003

Also a Great way to sleep well at night - and really locate your car.
www.gps2000online.com

I love mine.

Smile ZcarPC - In Nav Section - link

HI All:

Sorry for not getting this link up sooner.

I'd like to thank Scafremon, DRBonz and CHASS ( In Z PC ) for all thier help.

They were months ahead of our ZcarPC. All we did was to make a "Custom and Sano Install"

These two Prototype Cars were the First Attempt. They look extirely stock interior - except for the USB Touch Pad on the coin lid.

The fist car ( Redline Performance ) used a Composite Display
The Second Car (CS Touring ) used the Xenarc VGA Display.

By reducing the number of parts, ( I.E. No Battery to 120V inverter for PC Supply ) we used a DC2DC 120Watt ATX card, and an Up/down PC sequencer so you just jump in the car and drive.

The install of the current unit is labor intensive, but any qualified Stereo Installer should be able to do a clean install.

Here is the link to the Nav Section.. Enjoy

Cheers Amy -

Smile Real Time Images from 4 Cams to Digital files

The Cam Car is the Silver one.

We are testing a four channel image storage to the ZcarPC tm

Many options - but we belive B/W pinhole camera is best.

We would like to digitize Color for cars in track runs. But we have found a security Pinhole camera with great Depth of field - But it is black and white....

$250 usd - is O.K. but are trying to talk with Manufactuer. to decrease cost to street.

Testing is in progress ( read we will get the image capture board in a week ) Ha!
Then I'll tell you what it can do..

Cheers Amy -

What the software does is take up to four composite vidio channels and save 15 fps to the ZcarPC tm so If you were in an accident you could play back the Images for the court to say "yes this $@# ran in front of me. The way it it works is to save images of your cameras (4) to an image file when the disk fills up, It overwrites the first files.

Not that fast - but a whole lot of fun..

Tell you when it is an option

Cheers Amy -

Asfter top is out an inch or so, lift up.

Nice job!
I'd like to see pics of your battery solution and your USB touchpad; those are the things that really set your install apart from the others.
I thought about a similar solution using a 2nd battery, but then I would have to worry about a charger solution.
I don't use an inverter either; I have a 65W 12VDC-to-12VDC power supply thats smaller than two decks of cards.

And pardon my saying, but it looks a little inconvenient.
What do you do when you have to access your computer?
Where is your CD drive?
For your WiFi, why did you not use USB?
They are starting to come out with 801.11g USB devices: 56Mbps!
11Mpbs is too slow to copy MP3s!
That'd free up your PCI card for something more useful.

Thanks for the info on the cell based internet: That is one of my next tasks.

Check out my project sometime: http://www.swooby.com/z/navpc/

(Notice the remote control eye above the screen, used to switch between PC, TV Tuner, and factory NAV)

Talking OH my GOD!!!!!!!!!!

swoobyz,

I will have to check out your site when I get home from work, but just from the 2 pictures you posted, I think that you might have the solution to my BIG problem. PLEASE tell me that you are actually able to run the computer WITH the stock Nav system and LCD screen????? If that's the case then you have my vote for "DA MAN!!!" How much did all that cost (or is all that info on the site)?

Thanks!

Yes, I am using the factory NAV screen.
Yes, I have to squint a bit to see certain fonts on my XP's desktop.
Yes, the GEX's composite-to-RGBS scan-converter sucks.
Yes, I plan on replacing the LCD screen with a VGA one.

The video solution cost around $300.
The PC + keyboard cost around $850 (you can easily skimp or splurge here).
The 65W power solution cost around $170 (including shutdown controller).

The VGA monitor I am looking at will be $499.

My site has more info than you ever cared to know.

Smile Thanks SwoobyZ

SwoobyZ:

Your mod for Factory Nav is very awsum. And by your last post I see you want better resolution (VGA) for your PC connection.

You had many questions in your post's. The choice of using the linksys PCI 802.11B card was based on --- I had one laying around, and my wireless router is an old 11B. Ha!

I'll go 11G and USB the next time around.. I'm really interested in a four channel video capture card in that single PCI slot. Cat cams front, back, interior and maybe a " Pedal Cam"..

SwoobyZ, good luck on your projects, and please keep us informed of what Factory Nav owners can do to hop - up their units.

A buddy of mine Eric H has a Factory Nav, and he wants to play DVD. He does not want PC.. Pls Advise.

Cheers Amy -

Other question you asked.

And pardon my saying, but it looks a little inconvenient.
What do you do when you have to access your computer?
Where is your CD drive?

SwoobyZ - yes the opening of the Bose Compartment - and taking out 4 speaker screws is an issue to service the PC.
However this install is so clean, it looks stock with all compartment doors closed.

The DVD Cdrom Front loader (no tray - Pioneer) is recessed into the drivers side cubby. On future installs we will place it on the Passager side Cubby. So the driver can change media without dislocating his arm. ( there is a subtle joke here, that might go over one's head, but it is true.. Des )

The way it is the Passager can change media, behind the driver's head, by opening the cubby..

But relocating the DVD to the right cubby is best.

Hi Chazzg,,

The Bose Plastic Cover has Been perfed ( Vented ) and a 60mm Fan brings cool cabin air into the rear compartment. No PC failures yet. I noticed that the Bass sounds better after the Vent.

Humm email me any info you have on the Four port capture card.

Please post your experiment, and results...

Cheers -
