Speaker questions
hey i have the factory bose system and want to get a new deck and speakers right now and later on get a sub and amp. I dont know much about car audio. But does anyone know what size or type of speakers i need to look for, im mainly searching on ebay for speakers. I found a pretty cool Deck, all decks are pretty universal right. So basically my question is what size or type of speakers do i need to be looking for that will fit and work in the 2003 350z with bose. Also Will this deck fit and work: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...m=120377544994

First of all, this belongs in the Audio/Video forum.
Second, this is a Z, not a beater... Don't buy a damn DUAL headunit.
Third, 6.5" all around. You'll need the 1" spacer for the front. Also, if you're installing a new headunit and speakers, plan on buying/installing a 4-channel amp as well so you can remove the lame BOSE amps.

It doesn't sound like you want to invest much money into this project, which is fine. But I get the feeling you are going to end up buying speakers, amp and sub around the same quality as the DUAL. If that is the case, then just keep the BOSE. It is not the best quality, but why spend any amount of money if you are not going to end up with a better set up.
Search past threads and you will not only find the answers to easy questions like speaker size, but also educate yourself that yes head units are universal but not equal. Good luck!

I started out with a deck and components/amp only at first and was very pleased (for about a year, until the upgrade bug struck). I started with a nice Pioneer, single din, headunit (I have no need for navi/dvd). I looked for one with good, quick ipod connectivity and something that would be easily upgradeable when I was ready for subs (sub controls, multiple pre-outs, etc.). I spent less than $800 on a headunit, 2 channel amp, and component speakers that I liked (MB Quart). I was really pleased with the sound that I got from this set up and when time and finances permitted I added another amp and subs. Spend the money up front on good speakers (just fronts most will argue) and you'll be happy until you want to upgrade.
