Default JL10 w6v2 vs IDQ10 D4

So I was planning on getting a JL10 w6v2 powered by a JL 500/1v2 soon but have seen an incredable amount of people speaking great things about IDQ subs. Which would you guys prefer? Only place I could find selling them is wooferetc for $159.99 compared to $240 that the w6 would cost. noticed it only handles 250w rms though and requires a much smaller sealed enclosure then that one I was planning on getting (Z enclosures w/o amp rack, single 10") Which sub would hit harder, SPL, SQ?

Thanks for any help

EDIT: Figured out w/ the enclosure I could get 2 10" running off the 500/1v2. It would only end up costing like $50 more then a single w6. Not sure if I need more than one 10" sub though. BTW the w6 is 600w rms so its a lot more than the IDQ's 250w.

I think you clicked on the ID subwoofer... IDQ wants 350W RMS+, and has a big mounting diameter so most boxes wont work unless modified or designed for it... And when I talked to the guy from zenclosures he couldnt make the mounting hole big enough for the IDQ. I used a company on ebay that produces and similar box and they made the hole bigger, works great, but they use cheap carpet, and there is a spot were it wore through during a little during shipping, barely noticeable though...

I have the IDQ, and it is an amazing subwoofer. If I send it 480W RMS~ it gets loud and low, sounds great. I have never heard a JLw6 but from what people say, the IDQ is atleast comparable, and lots say its better. Also the W6 for $240 is probably from a unauthorized reseller? THe IDQ is the same price, but from a authorized reseller

Heres the proper sub.

that link says 500w rms I believe. I think it is to large though like u said.

My box:
Mounting depth - 7.62 in. (based on 6" magnet)
Mounting diameter - 9.125 in.

IDQ10 D4:
Mounting Depth: 5.75"
Mounting Diameter: 9.60"

why would it cost more? 2 pieces of mdf $15, screws $3, sealant $3, carpet or vinyl... no more than $15.... thats a rough estimate for $36 in materials..... infinately cheaper to throw me some money and ill build one to spec

you looking for one just under the strut or one that extends farther and use an amp rack?

idq you will hvae a harder time to fit under hte strut, its a bit oversized for the 10, having MD and OD of 9.6 and slightly over 11".

on the zenclosure box for example, the OD would make hte sub slightly bigger than the front face itself almost...making for a bad fit even if you shave out hte MD to be 9.6.

on the issue of sq and spl, this is my opinion, given the optimal box for both and the right amount of power, both will have similar output characteristics, i peronsally feel the idq is a little tigher and has slightly better transient response (quicker), but both are decent subs, with the MSRP of the idq being cheaper, this is why i peronally would prefer the idq. though i do miss the really dry and less thick sound, and smaller box requirements of hte idq v2, the output increase of hte v3 is hard to argue against

cheers,

b

are you saying you can build understrut boxes identical to zenclsoures for 36 bucks a pop?

if so,can i order one from you now for $50? and after i get it, if its up to snuff to zenclosure boxes, i will do a full review on here nad help you push it?

let me know.

I absolutely love my ID 10" D4 v3. The bass is so tight and clean when powered by an Arc or my beater Alpine amp. I've also heard a 12" IDQ and it was so clean for the amount bass it was pushing. I'm sold on this company as a sub maker. A 10" IDQ is on my wishlist for the next sub for sure.

Maybe it's the tune, but every single 10" W7 I've ever heard hits waaay too hard and shaky for my tastes. Makes me want to go buy the owner an extra box of Dynamat. Just my take, i'm sure there are great SQ setups with JL out there, I just haven't heard it yet.

Ya I've heard a lot of people say they prefer the w6 over the w7. I would prob consider getting an IDQ, looks like they would both run the same price ($240) but there rather big and it looks like the w6 will fit this box perfectly.
