Default Amp question

So I called this local install place that was recommended to me via another forum. I was discussing with the owner what I wanted and he was explaining to me how he very much dislikes JL amps and would definitely recommend true technology amps. I told him I worked at Bestbuy and he told me I should get (2) Fosgate P500-2 amps over a JL 500/1v2 and JL 300/2v2. He then recommended getting (2) 8" subs instead of (1) 10" which I could understand for SQ reason. What do you guys think of JL vs Fosgate P500-2 though, big surprise to me.

Thanks for any input.

I always though signal/noise ratio was a big thing to look at along with freq response. 500/1v2 is 95db, 20-250 while P500-2 is 85db, 20-200. P400-4 is same while 300/2v2 is 109db, 20-200. Do these number mean really nothing at all or is this guy have no idea what hes talking about. I wouldn't mind going with fosgate because it would save me hundreds $$$ most likely but I would hate to listen to this guy and greatly regret it.

I've been running a P440.4 and a P600.1 for awhile now. The prices were right and I'm happy with the sound.

The P600.1 is pusing a single Boston Acoustics G210 (10") and the P440.4 is bi-amping my Boston Acoustics Pro's up front.

I also like that I was able to put each amp in a cubby so it's all pretty stealth.

Signal to noise ratio is important, but more so when it comes to powering interior speakers where mids/highs are heard. If you're looking for a quality amp to power your sub(s), I would pick the Fosgate over the JL and save a few $$. As far as going with two 8" subs versus one 10", in by 10 years installing, I have yet to hear one or two 6.5" or 8" subs that will have the same output as a 10" sub. 8" subs just can't produce as low of a frequency as a 10" sub. If you are looking for solid/clean bass that won't rattle your neighbors windows, I would go with a set up similar to what I had in my Z. I had a single 10" Alpine Type E in the thinner of the two ZEnclosures available powered by that exact amp, RFP500. It gave PLENTY of bass being that it's a hatchback and there isn't a back seat to fight with in reagards to sound. When I accidentially poked a hole in it with my golf bag, I changed to a KICKER CVX10. Now in my 300zx, I have gone back to that Alpine Type E only now I'm running an Alpine MRP500. Long story short, go with a 10". Worst case if it's too much, turn down your amp settings or sub controls on your radio.(If so equiped)

The one thing I always think of that my dad used to tell me is "you get what you pay for" which makes me want to get the JL over fosgate in a way. The thought of getting fosgate and saving $$$ seems great though. Damn choices :/

I tryed to find an online place that sells them just to get a price idea but couldn't find any. I have a feeling they were be at least as expensive as JL, just a guess though).
