Default Soldering still needed?

Hi guys, Im trying to install a single-din headunit, and I thought buying an aftermarket wire harness (Metra #70-7550) would not require me to do any of the soldering work. I thought buying the wire harness would allow me to simply plug one end to the aftermarket headunit, and the other end to the OEM wire that was unplugged while removing the stock radio... Please help!

you still have to attach the wires to each other, usually all you have to do is match up the colors soldering + heat shrink would be ideal but you could use a bunch of crimp connectors too

Thanks for your response. I'm not familiar with this at all, but how do I connect the head of the wires of the Metra #70-7550 I bought as well as the power wire harness? It's not a simple plugging it in right?

Oh I read your previous response wrong. So I still need soldering to connect the wires...
What kind of crimp connectors could I use? I want to avoid soldering because I've never done it before...

edit: Also, what is the purpose in the metra wire harness 70-7550 then if I still need to solder? I thought the whole purpose of it was to avoid soldering the OEM harness...

the harness is so you don't have to cut up your stock harness to hook up the aftermarket deck and so its easy to go back to stock hense plug in play. im almost certain i used the same exact harness as you when i put an indash in my 350z. as for the crimps just get some i think the size is 1\8 inch blue electrical crimps at your local hardware store

Ok I think I will do that right now... So after I get the crimps, how do I go about connecting the wires into the crimps? Just push it in straight?

the only ones like that were sold at circuit city, metra made them exclusively for them

all the other require wiring it yourself

One more question, when I have the Metra 70-7550, I will have to wire the power harness of the aftermarket to the metra 70-7550 harness, and thena plug the metra 70-7550 adapters to the stock harness right?

Also, do I leave the brown adapter alone, shown in the picture? Or do i plug that into somewhere as well? what is it that brown adapter?

I've got the stock non bose.

Also, I decided to solder and have bought all the materials.

I also bought 2 "flux creams" in petroleum based and water soluable based for plumbing, but im not sure if im supposed to use them? Or would rosin solders work?

Also, if say there are wires for amps but i don't have it, do i just leave them un-soldered and in the way they are?

One more question, for the black wire (ground wire), it says to connect it to the metallic body or chasis of the car, where would that be?

I have the Metra #70-7550 and it has a black (ground) wire as well. Don't I connect it with the aftermarket stereo's black (ground) wire? I don't get what they mean by connect it to the metalic body of car...

the only one for amp on the harness is probably gonna be remote which you can ignore. as for the ground i ran into trouble with my in-dash becuase the stock ground on the stock harness was insufficient so i ran a longer ground wire to a screw than went into the body. you don't really need that much flux and not the kind for plumbing. hope this helps

Thanks.

So for the ground wire I don't solder the Metra #70-7550 with the aftermarket stereo's ground wire? I'm very confused by this ground wire because I do not know how to ground it, where to ground, and what it really means...

The brown connector is the steering wheel controls. Unless you got a steering wheel control adapter ( I assume you didn't b/c you didn't mention it) then you just leave the brown one alone. As for the ground, I wrapped the ground wire around of the bolts that hold the metal plate around the shifter. Basically, the ground wire completes the circuit and it needs to be touching something that conducts electricity. Hope that helps somewhat.

Thanks, it did.

Let me make sure what I'm going to be doing is correct:

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
There is a wire harness that comes with the JVC KD-R200 single-din stereo that I bought. The wires in that harness include the front speaker (+ & -), rear speaker (+ & -), etc....

The Metra #70-7550 comes with 2 wire harnesses, and it also has the rear speaker (+ & - ) etc... So basically I solder the JVC's wires with the Metra #70-7550 wires correct?

Correct, I'm pretty sure the metra harness's wires are labeled and the instructions also tell you what each wire is for. The JVC should also have instructions with the wires' function/color and the wires may be labeled too. So, just connect the wire on the metra harness that corresponds with the wire on the JVC harness and you should be good to go.

Gotcha, thanks a lot.
I've got a concern though because some of the wires on the Metra are not on the JVC.

I uploaded 2 pics of the instruction, the first is the Metra harness, and the 2nd is the JVC. Hope you can help me!!!

1.) For the JVC wire harness (pic 2): where do i connect the Yellow Wire (To a live terminal in the fuse block connecting to the car battery) and the Red Wire (To an accessory terminal in the fuse block)? Do I connect it to the Red wire and Yellow wire in Metra (Pic 1)? Red-Red , Yellow with yellow?

2.) Pic #2 mentions about a "fuse block" near the area I highlighted. Am I going to need that?

3.) So for the ground wire (black), I'm supposed to connect it to the car body? There are 2 ground wires coming from the Metra and the JVC, am I not supposed to solder them together?

4.) Where do I connect the Illumination and Dimmer wires to? <--- Pic #1

1.) Yes, red to red and yelllow to yellow. The red turns the radio on when you turn the key on and the yellow always has power in order to keep your presets and other things like the clock in memory.

2.) Don't think so. Connecting the red to red and yellow to yellow will take care of that.

3.) Yes, if there is a black wire coming from the metra then connect the black wire from the metra to the black wire from the JVC.

4.) By the looks of pic #2 your JVC doesn't have that feature (dimming when you turn the headlights on) because I don't see any illumination/dim wires coming off the JVC harness, so just leave them disconnected and tape them up.
