Please help!! Driving from NC to FL and my amp is not working
I'm running a 5 channel kicker amp for the front, rear, and sub.
I've been running this set up fine for two months. A couple of days ago it was very hot (my amp has never overheated). I turned the radio on and the speakers were sounding bad. My amp then shut off, turned back on, and then shut off. It will then not turn on at all again. I checked the fuses and cables just around the amp and everything seemed fine. The next morning the amp turned on but then shut off.
The amp is not going into protection mode.
Fuses are fine.
It seems like its not getting a signal to turn on... I tried switching the button to the audio signal feed instead of the remote wire to turn on but that doesn't work either.
I'm out of state and don't really want to take the car apart to troubleshoot the cables etc.
Any suggestions? What can this be? Did my amp go bad??

Did you check the cabling on the battery end? Did u check the inline fuse? Also, did you try disconnecting the amp from ground and power then reconnecting? Not sure what else it can be besides the amp dying out...

The way you describe it is this issue happens as soon as you turn the head unit on....correct? If so, it almost sounds like one of your speaker wires could be shorting out. Try to disconnect all of your speaker wires and turn on the amp. If it comes on and stays on, then that is your issue. Connect the speakers back up one at a time, testing after each one to see which wire is causing the short.
If not a speaker cable short, come back and we'll try something else.

Try to get your hands on a volt meter and check the voltage from the remote wire to the amp ground and from the amp power wire to the amp ground.
If it was a speaker issue the amp should be going in to protection. Are there any power indicators on the amp?

I agree with you 100%. That's exactly what it sounds like.....a protection switch on-and-off-and-on.....
I think when the OP said it wasn't going into protect, he is referring to an LED on the amp was not lighting up. Those LED's are typically only indicators for thermal protection. If a speaker wire is grounding out it usually does not trip any protection LED's.
