This might help someone out

I started to install my 6.5" JL Audio coaxial speakers. First attempt was to use the speaker mount from the factory Bose as posted on this forum. Problem is that the factory speakers aren't 6.5" so the JL Audio speaker wouldn't fit.

I used 3/4" MDF, but it wound up being too thick once I test fit the door trim. (I thought I needed more rear clearance). I wound up shaving off 3/8" so wound up with spacers 1 1/8".

I used 1/4" bolts with nylock nuts to mount after applying sound deadening.

When fitting the door trim, the nylon ribs in the bottom corners also needed to be trimmed.. an easy fix.

As a side note.. I know many of you have done audio upgrades already... but for those that haven't, you can't beleve what **** speakers the ''premium Bose" speakers truly are until you have one in your hands.. Anyone notice that the 10" sub... besides being a joke, doesn't have a magnet ? The metal mounting bracket weighs more than the sub. What a joke.

Thanks for the info...very helpful. Is there enough room in there for a crossover incase I decide to go with component speakers? thanks again

Plenty of room to mount a cross-over. I mounted JL Audio coaxials in all 4 corners, and Kenwood tweets in the original factory location. Kenwood tweeters fit the factory location perfectly, using factory mounting bracket. There is another thread on this forum related to mounting locations for the crossovers. I mounted mine with velcro on top of the foam pad on the door panel. Other locations work equally well. There's plenty of room at certain locations behind the door panel.
