So I'm placing my 10" RF P3 subwoofer in the trunk of my roadster since it sounds like sh*t in the stock location . I'm planning on using a sealed box. I only have 1 sub but am considering 2.

For those of you who have the subs in the trunk of the roadster, can you really hear them?

Is there a big difference in having them in the trunk as opposed to in the stock location inside the car?

I think I asked you this before somewhere else, tired and can't remember though, how much power do you have going to your P3?

 

500W @ 2ohms. Thinking of using the same amp to power 2 P3s (parallel wire them)

 

Ehh 500 Watts isn't much to hear no matter where its at :/

 

Thats the truth. I got 750 watts going to the stock location JL W6 and it's doing pretty nice

I'm pretty sure its all preferences. While some 500w maybe enough/a lot, some is actually not a lot as well. Built a custom-box inside the stock bose location is your best bet..

 

yeah 500 watts rms is nothing... learn your stuff before you guess advice.

Screw that. You should go with the glove box drop in boxes with the JL 13" Slims. I can't imagine that a sub in the trunk would do anything in my roadie besides disappoint me.

 

RMS wattage is only as good as the efficiency of the driver (meaning the subwoofer in this case) and the installation.

To say 500wrms is nothing is a horrible generalization. If 500wrms is nothing, what wattage do you recommend? You do realize that in order to double the audible output, you need to multiply the wattage by 5....or find a driver that is 3db more sensative.

My opinion is that 500wrms with the proper driver and enclosure could definitely satisfy your every bass need. Even in the trunk of the roadster.

 

Good responses. In another forum a user posted that he was pushing 2 10" P3s with only 250W to each one in the trunk and that he was happy. Just throwing that out there.

 

Holy Sh*t! So I went down to the local mom and pop audio store and bought me a cheap ported box for my 10". I bought to hold me over until I did something custom. I threw the sub in the box and threw the box in the truck and WOW!

That sub hits! My whole car was vibrating, it sounded loud and amazing. Its crazy how a simple thing as a box can make the soundwoofer just boom. Even in the trunk the whole car was filled with sound.

Had to throw that out there.

 

Still rather have mine in the cab. Have fun though

I do know what I'm talking about, I've been to bass competitions and been in some locals... I used to run more than 2000 watts so saying 500 watts isn't that much isn't exactly wrong, but I was mostly being sarcastic. If I was to hear 500 watt subs now it would sound more like stock Bose with the base +5, sorry.

 

SPL Subs have nothing to do with accuracy and sound quality.. the problem with most people like yourself is you think the louder the sub is the better it sounds.. i can't tell how many people i hear their trunk vibrating from down the road and all you can hear is nasty in-accurate bass.

I can run an IDMax sub at 400 watts and the accuracy and quality of the bass will blow you away. You need to get away from the mentality that loud = good
