doug: I agree, I have a friend that has a 6 12" subs that he uses for competition and it sounds like sh*t. I mean its loud, but thats all it is. You can't even hear the artist singing or rapping, its nothing but bass and car rattleting, which in itself is very annoying.

barnabas: are you talking about running 500W for ALL subs? Or 500W to EACH sub?

I can run an IDMax sub at 400 watts and the accuracy and quality of the bass will blow you away. You need to get away from the mentality that loud = good
What? You need to get away from the mentality that anything loud = not good ..... a proper loud setup CAN sound good.

Yea I got the sub/amp in box for a sick deal then I had it all custom painted to match the car.

Any way the way he had it set up was all three subs ran to one port on the inside of the box???? SO wierd I just got done finishing that trunk set up when I was home on leave and didnt have the time/will to take all of the subs out and rewire.

So to sum it up: 3 W3 wired to one port in box. Using one of the dual out puts on the 500:1 JL SUB to power them.

I know i prob just sounded like a complete idiot and confused everyone sooo...

Yes 500W for ALL subs.

If I was to hear 500 watt subs now it would sound more like stock Bose with the base +5, sorry.
Yes, 2000 watts rms is a lot of power and driving the right subs in the right enclosure in the right location could yield some incredible sub bass. This is all well and good for you, but it does not exactly address the OP's question.

But RMS power is all relative. 2000 watts rms feeding subs that have an 80db sensativity will probably only be able to get as loud (on a db meter) as 500 watts rms feeding subs that have a 87db sensativity rating. This all assumes comparable enclosure and placement of course. Having been in the car audio game for 20 years, I have learned that power level is only about 20% of the equation. Equipment choice and install are the other 80%; and this is where many people suffer.

Hmmmmm. You seem very knowledgeable about sound reproduction and placement of equipment......why the hell are you putting a sub in the trunk of your roadie? You know as well as I do that the cab is a better choice.

Unless you looking to just annoy people in traffic, in which case, you should still put a sub in your cab as well, lol.

What about like with my setup?? to me its the best of both. Ill be the first to admit I dont knowa ton about stereos, but the set up I have now where they point up and towards the cab, they are much louder then the one i used to have in the trunk and im gonna guess louder then behind the seats.

Any suggestiosn on ways to improve my setup( i described it up a couple posts)

You're a hatch back. No worries. This was my setup in my 3000gt. Placement in a hatchback can alter the way the bass sounds to you obviously, but most spots are ok. The further away from the driver, the better, IMHO. (12" kicker L7's @ 2 ohms, MB Quart Comps front and rear, kenwood excelon amps and headunit, just in case you wanted to know)

But in our roadsters, there is a hollow void between the cab and the trunk where the soft top retracts into. So unless your purpose to make noise and **** people off, the trunk placement is horrible for sound reproduction in the roadster. (the driver is the one listening, not everyone else in traffic)

I wanna put the subwoofer in the cabin, but its gonna take some custom work to make it happen. I'm NOT gonna spend $300 in the cas box thats ridiculous. I'm gonna plan it out and figure it out later, till then, the trunk is fine. I already tried to put the sub in the cabin once and it sounded like crap, so custom is the way to go.

Wow, there is a lot of misinformation within this thread.

In any case, my personal experience is with the right equipment and installation 500W will be way more than enough.

I'm only pushing 300W each to two 12" subwoofers (600W total) and its plenty loud, clear, etc...

As stated before efficiency is the key.

it doesn't matter if its in the trunk or not on a roadster .. bass is going to come into the cabin with the right setup.. my (2) 12" IDMax were louder in my maxima with a trunk than my current setup with a coupe in my Z

Your maxima doesn't have a hollow void between the trunk and the cabin.

You know, like the one between your ears

Except I never said the louder the better, nor implied it. It was more sarcasm in regards to the thread title. Which I've explained.

Thanks.

Where at in the rear ? you said your putting your sub in the trunk , but don't say where the amp is going . If you are putting your amp in the trunk as well and you don't know how to get Power , remote and Rca''s back there , maybe you should take it to someone that does .
