Default 6 3/4"

Hey guys,

Wondering if 6-3/4" would fit up front in the doors without modification?

Thanks!

6 3/4 is same as 6 1/2 the 6 3/4 comes with an adapter plate which can be removed in most cases which makes it a 6 1/2

It depends...

Are the speakers a 6 1/2-6 3/4 speaker? Or strictly a 6 3/4 speaker?

Difference is... The 6 1/2-6 3/4 is basically a 6 1/2" speaker with a 6 3/4" mounting base to allow fitment in different size holes.

True 6 3/4" speakers are a little larger. Since you'll most likely be needing spacers for the front speakers, you can get a larger cutout to allow a 6 3/4" speaker to fit.

If your plan is using the stock speaker location in the front door….

I don’t think it’s so much the speaker's diameter that will be the problem, but instead the speaker’s depth.

Using the stock door mount, you can always trim a little to get a wider diameter (and I doubt you will need to do this with the speakers you mention), but you can’t expand the depth.

Question: What is the depth from wall for these speakers?

Here ya go. Did some research for you.
It'll fit fine in a 6 1/2" hole.
2 5/8" mounting depth. IIRC, you'll need a speaker spacer. http://www.zenclosures.com/Speaker_Spacers_s/36.htm

Hey Spork,

Good reply … Thanks for doing the research.

I believe SkyMan wants to use the stock door mount (Am I correct?)

If so, a 2 5/8” depth-from-wall is going to be pretty tight. The depth might be OK if the magnet (speaker base) isn’t too wide.

I’m guessing and not sure. I couldn’t fit Focals with a 2.7” depth-to-wall into the stock door space (had to go to the Focals Slims to fit).

My MB Quart components were 2.56" deep, and I needed to use a spacer for it.

The Zenclosure spacers are a good, cheap way to fit deeper speakers in the stock location.
