Portion already done:

So i got bored and decided to build a new box for my 10" JL W7

Goal:

More air space while still retaining the under strut appearance... looking to get around 2 ft^3 before displacement since my last box only had 1.4 before displacement.

heres how shes coming

In the beginning

quick test

more

so far so good

me no like leaky boxs

thought i was kidding

FACE!

Damn im good.... 2.041 ft^3

speaker wire of choice

Stripping her down to her birthday suit

NUDES!!!

Who need a terminal cup when you can run straight wire?

WTF?

make more sense now?

quick test... precision isnt necessary here

I drill holes for fun

got my vinyl today.... so i put it on everything

check out my toe in the bottom right... Note to self: dont drop a sheet of mdf on your foot

ITS WORKING!!!!

amp rack is gone!

DAMN! got allot done yesterday but i still cant find my camera

-ran all new speaker wire properly (damn you molex) for front stage 14awg for mids and highs 12awg for mid-bass

-new amp rack with jl 500/1 and both pdx amps

-wired up audiocontrol crossover and eq

-finished crossover and eq rack with raised "Z" logo covered in vinyl

-re wrapped the A-Pillars in vinyl

- Installed HAT L1Pros (awesome)

-And i fu#king ruined one of my midbass speakers now i have to get a new surround for it or just scrap it

dash pods are on hold until i go 4 way

The L4's are designed for infinite baffle so using dash pods wouldnt have been a good idea since it would have taken a large amount of my dash to do that.

so i opted for my door... sealed it off as best as i could and its running infinite baffle now so the response from these things is awesome

dont worry, ill be joining the ranks of dash pods as soon as i get some more money flow... ill be putting L3's in those, require much less room than the L4's

For now its L1Pros in pillars, L4's in doors, qm200 in kicks

no such thing, more wire = less resistance

if the w7 would take 0awg then that would be my speaker wire

And you really think that there is an audible.......or even measurable.......difference in the 3 feet of cable from the amp to the sub? I'm not at all trying to be a d!ck here, just saying that there would probably be no measurable difference at all between using your 8awg or some good quality 12awg speaker cable. Of course the 8awg will give that WOW factor if you will be leaving it visible in the finished install.

Anyway, cheers to you for a nice selection of equipment and a nice install so far.

looks good man how do the mids sound that low in the doors and far away from the tweets? Im assuming the audiocontrol prob has T/A? Definitely looks great though man i love your box as well.

Unfortunately none of the Audio Control Processors have Time Alignment so I am curious as well how this will sound. I am running a DQXS which is amazing but I am missing time alignment. My placement makes up for that issue though. By next year we will see new products from Audio Control that include time alignment. I have been talking to thier techs the last few months.

I too have worked with the Hybrid components and I like them as well. I made pods in a range and they sounded spectacular!

Good job so far!!! Can't wait to see the final results (ahem, all the panels back in!)

Like Donor said, no T/A but even with the speaker placement not optimal it sounds awesome... HAT has super wide and smooth dispersion. The L4's come alive in infinite baffle. some of the guys at the shop have not heard of HAT until i started talking about it since they are into bass boxing and bass race (one of them used to do sq many years ago when everything was analog) but they were floored with what these can do with no eq work... now i just have to find time to eq everything out to OMFGAMAZING status
