Advice on radar detectors?
Hey guys... well I just broke 1100 miles on my Z this past week and the "magic number" of 1200 is fast approaching. Anyways, as I slowly begin to start revving higher (and going faster
) I have decided that getting a radar detector is KEY.
However, I am clueless about radar detectors - I don't know what features I need, I don't know what a good price is, and I don't even know what brands are good. I guess I'm looking for some advice from you guys.
I've seen a wireless one before, but I think it costed well over $300. Are there any other options for wireless? I'm all about style, and I can't imagine having a wire running acrosss from between the seats all the way over to the wind shield. Or have you guys come up with a way to make the wire not so annoying and in the way?
Help?

well... if you want performance get the Valentine 1. Hard-wiring the V1 is easy and you can conceal the wire very easily.
I think Passport has a wireless, battery operated detector. You will sacrifice a lot of performance and sensitivity compared to the V1.
The K40 display is completely concealed in your instrument panel and the sensors are hidden behind the front grill and the rear license plate. You have to have it professionally installed, so plan to spend $1,000 or more.
I've used a V1 for years and it's paid for itself many, many times over. I've even had a Passport and V1 in my car at the same time and the V1 sensed radar at least a mile sooner than the Passport every time.
Hope that helps.

I've got my V1 with remote display in my Z right now. I am planning on adding the Escort ZR3 to my car....just not sure about going with the Escort 8500 as a replacement for the V1. The nice thing about the 8500 is that it works in tandem with the ZR3. But I "REALLY" like the V1's direction indicator. I've heard mixed reviews about the 8500 vs the V1 in performance. Some say the 8500 is better, some say the V1.
sigh!!
So many toys, so little time!
