Default Installed DNX-6140 Check Engine Now

Hi, I installed a Kenwood DNX-6140 HU yesterday and everything went well except for one problem. The check engine light came on after I was finished. There was one step which I modified of that process. One wire was to go to the parking break but instead I just grounded it so Nav and DVD will work in drive. Could this cause a check engine light. Anyone have any suggestions on what I may have done that made it go on?

If you didnt leave something unplugged and you didnt splice wires I would say it might be one of the worls craziest coincidences. Grounding that wire is fine, but you didnt drill into anything did you?

Yeah I thought the same thing. Nothing was left unplugged, everything is where it is supposed to be outside of that grounded wire and all HU functions work great. Any drilling was done outside of the car and it was just to the radio mounts to make the unit is flush with the console. Anything else?

Use a code-reader if you have one, if not go to autozone and they'll do it for free.

OK going to take it to autozone. Are the codes that come back somewhat descriptive. Meaning is it going to say electrical, or would it say parking break or something?

Well I did this and it worked. No more CEL

Operations Procedures

1. Confirm that accelerator pedal is fully released, turn ignition switch “ON” and wait 3 seconds.
2. Repeat the following steps (2a and 2b) procedures quickly five times within 5 seconds.
2a. Fully depress the accelerator pedal (HARD).
2b. Fully release the accelerator pedal.
3. Wait 7 seconds, fully depress the accelerator pedal and keep it for approx. 10 seconds until the CEL starts blinking.
4. Fully release the accelerator pedal (while the CEL is still blinking)
5. Wait about 10 second.
6. Fully depress the accelerator pedal and keep it for more than 10 seconds.
7. Fully release the accelerator pedal (The CEL light will continue to blink).
8. Turn ignition switch to “OFF” position and now you can start the car. The CEL light should be gone.

I was thinking though, if there actually is a problem, will the light come back on? I am almost sure it had to do with the HU install and therefore I am comfortable with just turning it off but am I running any risk?

This always happens when you turn the ignition on when the white A/C box is not plugged in.

Thank you! That puts my mind at rest. I did infact start the ignition and look down to realize I did not reattach the climate control to the white box, then when i did and started, check engine. Thanks a lot!
