Pioneer avh-p3100 and right rear speaker
Can anyone help a Z girl out? I installed a Pioneer AVH-P3100 last night. I haven't enclosed everything because I want to make sure everything works. (I thought I didn't have sound last night but the fan or whatever sound the ac makes when it comes in was so loud that I couldn't tell that my sound was working. I don't have the white cable thing that controls the ac connected yet)
I know this is a crazy question but I'm supposed to have sound coming out of my right rear speaker, right? (the speaker behind the passenger). Maybe I should put my original radio back in and see what happens. I don't have a subwoofer. I'm pretty sure I have everything wired correctly because I matched color to color very carefully. This is my first radio install. Since I can't solder worth anything I used what you guys call butt connectors. I'm a female computer techie by the way. I'm really excited. I also purchased a two connector switch. I know a lot of you are using relays but I was too scared to try that the first time out. Ok, as far as the two wire toggle switch, I have a red and black cable coming from the switch. I connected my green parking brake wire from the Pioneer harness to the red wire on the toggle switch. I assume I would connect the black wire from the toggle switch to the radio metal housing in order to ground it.
My two questions are:
1. Am I supposed to have sound coming out of my right rear speaker (the speaker behind my passenger?
2. What do I connect the black wire from my two wire toggle switch to so my passenger can watch DVDs? (radio metal housing)
Any help is greatly appreciated.
I've attached what my toggle switch looks like.

1. You should have sound coming from all speakers unless you have fade or balance adjusted to change it
2. The reason you don't have sound is because the safety feature won't let you see video unless the parking brake wire is hooked up and the parking brake engaged. The way around that that most people use is to just ground that wire. Then you can play a DVD at any time
3. I wouldn't worry about the toggle switch, just ground the parking brake wire.
This the setup I used on my Kenwood DNX5120 and it's worked out fine
Hope this helps

Yes - sound from all your speakers. Check your butt connectors and make sure that they're all firmly crimped down. Tug on the wires for that right rear speaker so see if anything pulls loose, if so try again. If everything is open you might as well inspect the speaker ends too. If not you're going to have to cut and strip the wires at the headend. While they're loose you can take a 9V battery and briefly connect it and disconnect if from the wires. The speaker should pop in and out loud enough for you to hear it - that proves the connection to the speaker so it was your butt connectors. If not your butt connectors were good and you've either got a broken wire or loose connection on the speaker end.
The toggle switch should go between your radio's hand brake wire and ground. The radio's chassis will work. Most of these radios are "smart" enough to detect if you're not using a switch or a relay and will lock the screen if you just directly ground the wire.
I think if you ground/short across the parking brake switch you'll always have the brake "idiot light" on the cluster, not a good thing.
Don't sell yourself short (or female) you've done a bunch of hard work that many a guy wouldn't attempt!

XOXO Ruff,
Looking forward to seeing the pics.
I've had this until for a few weeks waiting on the switch to arrive and I had to wait for the crimper and crimp connectors from Crutchfield to arrive. I'm so excited and just can't hide it. Oops, I hope I'm not showing my age!

Question, are the rear speakers behind the passenger considered the right rear speakers?
If so, I need to check this on my Scosche NN03B wire harness:
Purple – Right Rear Speaker (+)
Purple with Black Stripe – Right Rear Speaker (-)

yea passenger side rear = right rear, hmm...scosche NN03B...so you dont have Bose? IMO u should have gotten a Metra kit. Metra 70-7550 for non-Bose...which Dash kit did u get??
When it comes to wiring and radio kits, i always get Metra...i dont really trust any other brand...Metra 70-7551 for factory Bose is what i have

My install is done. CD, radio and DVD is working. I have sound in my right rear speaker. I checked the butt connectors but it looked ok. I then thought about looking at the harness. One of the purple cables came loose and I just pushed it back in the plastic housing. I only have one problem now, I have my switch in the cubby hole. As a result, my lid doesn't close like it should. I'll have to think about where to mount the switch. I won't do anything else until this weekend. I'm tired. My digital camera is broken so I couldn't take pictures. Your install looks nice. Are you using a switch, relay or dvd bypass box? I looked at your pictures closer and see you are using a relay. I kinda wished I'd used one of those dvd bypass boxes so I wouldn't have to worry about mounting the switch. What Will Smith movie is that? Oh yeah, I grounded the Pioneer harness black wire to one side of the radio metal housing and the switch black wire to the other side of the radio metal housing.

I'm finished with the install. I put it in the cubby hole. It comes out the front left side. The only problem is that the cubby cover doesn't close like it used to. I might move the wire somewhere else but right now I don't even want to see the dashboard open.
