Default New Sub in Stock Location

What do you guys recommend to mount a sub in the stock location? I know i have to buy the bose sub cover and the mounting stuff should be there. Im lookin to get a JL Audio 10W3 to fit in the stock location and have the amp sit back there, mainly because i want to still be able to fit 2 golf bags in the trunk. How will this sound? And is it neccesary to dynamat the entire sub area behind the drivers seat?

I gutted the entire interior. Dynomated everything. Especially the factory sub enclosure... Dynomated top and botom surfaces. I installed my sub (JL Audio 10w3v2D4) to the factory mounting plate. Sounds like s..... I haven't given up on the factory location (yet). Will build an enclosure for the sub and try again.

Rest of the system sounds great. A little on the bright side. Used 2 way 6.5 JL's all around, plus Kenwood KFC-T204 tweeters in the factory mounting brackets. (Mounting is perfect fit). Kept factory HU with AudioLink output converter. Ripped out all blose amps.

Used JL amps e4300 4-channel and e1200 monoblock. Not sure where to mount yet. They get warm, so don't believe I'll put in the glove box or sub enclosure.

I have the same problem you do grutter. I installed a 10" rockford dvc with an alpine 500 watt amp to it and it is flatt as hell. I need a box built to go in there, too much air.

If you're not going to build a box like the guy above, buy a sub designed for free air.

Do non-touring Zs have sub mounts in the area where the bose sub would be on touring models? I have an 03 enthus and would like to install my 10" from my last car without taking up precious space. That space behind the driver is ideal.

One side question, when I'm playing a CD the stock sound system is by no means great but compared to the radio it's far better. Sound quality from the radio SUCKS ... is this a head unit problem??

Its the radio and speakers (those speakers looked like they were made of cardboard when they came outta my car.

REPLACE the speakers first, then go from there.

Is it true that the Bose speakers are one ohm and can't be replaced with aftermarket two ohm speakers? I don't know if what the guy at Circuit told me is correct.

How bad would it sound to put a 6 3/4 in. sub in each of the rear speaker mounts? I'm not in to window-shattering bass, just real good sound. I don't even have those speakers turned on because they sound so horrible, so I could just continue to use the door mounted speakers for mids/highs. Something like this...

sorry, after thoughts

1 - the opening goes all the way from one side to the other of the car unless you split it

2 - the huge hole that the seatbelts come out of, well, that is one of the many "ports" of that box. I used 4 roles of Dynamat Extreme just to create 2 independant boxes and to plug all the holes.
