Default Car Alarm Advice

Due to my expensive stereo setup, I am looking for an alarm system. I heard Viper was good, but I would like some input on this.

I was quoted $900 for a top of the line Viper alarm. It had remote start (which I can't use/6spd). I wanted prox sensors, trunk release and door locks.

Original price was quoted @ $599 installed, but with the extra's they want $950.

I know this is a ripoff, but I need input on a top of the line alarm system. ( I prefer Viper or Alpine, but I am open to suggestions) My price range is from $300- $800.

Here is what I must have:

1. door locks
2. glass breakage/shock sensor
3. trunk release
4. proximity sensor
5. backup battery siren

6. And the most important, an illuminated keypad that shows and beeps me when the car is being tampered with. I do not want an optional beeper, it has to be on the keyfob

Any advice would be appreciated. My 9mm just aint cutting it, if I am not there.

Serious advice only, thanks

I found the alarm they wanted to install for $209 at etronics.com. Now I know this is not install price, but holy crap, $741 for the labor and a few options. WTF, am I missing something here?

If I was to buy this, how much extra would it cost me, labor, ect?

Here is the top of the line viper I believe.

I got mine installed by Circuit City for $400, only comes with 2 stages shock sensor so I just ordered the hood pin switch and prox sensor and backup siren from autotoy.com and going to add those in myself.

if you get the viper alarm, the orginal keyless entrance remote will be useless? The remote that viper offer is not pretty.

The 2wss is the one I installed in my car. It cost me $550, but it is defenitively worth it. I fee this is the best alarm system out there. It has a 1.25 mile range also.

Do a search on Compustar to find more info.

CompuStar is the only alarm/starter combo certified for manual cars. I love the remote start feature, it scares passers-by whenever I start it. My installer managed to keep my factory alarm intact, so I have the security of both.

Another vote for Compustar. In addition to the above mentioned features mine has been programmed to:

Open the gas lid Works out well as the release latch seems to stick on this car. Now when I fill up I just hit one button on the remote. If it doesn't release I just hit it again (and again and again) until it opens.

Windows Another button is programmed to roll the windows down and up in case its starts raining or too lazy to go out at the end of the day.

Paging I have this disabled right now but you can designate a spot on the car (they mount a sensor and a white dot on the car) and if it is hit, it will page you (if you are within ~1.25 miles). The only possible use I could think of was if someone was looking for you (like your GF, wife, etc) they can hit the dot and you would come running to the car. I figured my friends would have too much fun with it...

The install took ~6 hours but it really is the best one I found. Here's a picture of the remote:

Great, thanks, I just want to be able to use the OEM boot, and still use the OEM keyfob at a later date if I sell the Z.

Now my next step is to find a compustar retailer.

You may want to check with Nazar (he's a member on this board and installed my alarm, part of my stereo and my rear view camera) and ask him if he knows of a shop out your way that is certified to install Compustar alarms. He is a great person to ask questions about audio/video/alarms and his prices are really good (he beat Etronics everytime for me). Just make sure he know's you're from this board and he'll take care of you. He'll also tell you what you should be paying for an install. 603-382-1801 (Custom Car Alarm & Stereo in Plaistow NH)
