Installing vm9022 headunit
Quick question.. Do I need a harness to install an aftermarket hu? Can I just splice the wires and attach them to the wires on the back of the headunit?
To clarify, the headunit came with the wiring harnesses that plug into the back of the unit.. Was wondering what I need an additional harness for?

Of course you don't need another harness to hook up the aftermarket headunit. The harness simply gives you an easy way to plug the new headunit into the car without cutting/splicing any wires. This allows you to easily change headunits back to stock or another aftermarket unit later.
I would always recommend using the harness when installing a new headunit. There's no need to hack into the stock wiring when you can get harnesses for less than $6 online.

Any idea which metra harness to get? I have an 07 base model Z. The stock HU doesn't say BOSE anywhere on it, I don't think the base model Z comes with bose..

You are right...the base model doesn't come with the Bose system.
You should be looking for Metra harness #70-7550. Make sure to hookup the power antenna wire on the harness to either the power antenna output or the amp turn on wire on your radio harness to make sure the antenna booster gets turned on (or you will have horrible radio reception with the new HU).
