Default Bose Issue is Resolved!

On 10/1/03 Nissan announced to it's dealers a new TSB which is aimed at taking care of the lack of bass in the '03 Bose systems in the Touring model.

The TSB# is NTB 03-87 and it involves an amp replacement.

It will affect vehicles built between 9/27/02 and 6/?/03.

Letters will go out very soon to the owners of the first 6100 '03 Touring models produced in the build time span listed above.

You will then take your vehicle to the dealer to verify that you have the problem and an amp will be ordered for you.

For now, you don't have to do anything. Just wait for your letter.

This is great news in my opinion!

I talked to Nissan yesterday and was advised that TSB would be issued today but they would not tell me much about it although what they did tell me lead me to believed that it would be somewhat restrictive in scope. I hope that what you found out is correct and deals with the problem.

I hope so too. The information I posted came from the consumer affairs rep at Nissan USA who I have been contacting on a regular basis.

He had the courtesy to give me a call this morning and go over the TSB with me.

As far as being restrictive, all the TSB's sound that way.........the first TSB for the over boosted bass problem sounded restrictive as well.

As this process unfolds, I will post how it is going.

I would think it would apply to Canadian owners. To be sure, just call your dealer and see if he got a new TSB for the Bose in the past couple of days...........if he did..........you're in business! eh?

I already "resolved" my Bose issue, it is NO longer located in my car.

btw, the LACK of BaSS is not the only reason the Bose sux, just 1 of about 3-4.

Wedge, BTW thanks for listing the TSB#. I spoke to my dealer who will order amp as soon as he gets the TSB. Do you know if they are notifying dealers now of a general TSB as of today.

Now what restitution for those of us that got tired of waiting and ripped the system out ?
At least they should reimburse us for the cost of the amp + labor.

shb4- My dealer was already notified. It is TSB 03-087, I left the leading 0 out of my original post.

swooby- I signed your petition early on, you did an excellent job on it

grutter- don't know just what the amp and labor would be worth
the labor time will probably be estimated at .6 hrs. like the last one. (.6 x the techs hourly rate = not much). The amp is on an exchange basis and they will make a modification to it for future replacements. No idea of the cost of the modifications.

If you have replaced your system with a nice one, then you probably have a much better system than the Bose even if the Bose is working to spec.

I already got one replacement amp way back when, but I think that was just for the audio pilot problem(which it did solve)

is this different?

Might want to tell whoever is in charge of that petition to change "COMPLAINANTS" to "COMPLAINTANTS"... might look a bit more official, formal, and Nissan might pay more attention to it if it doesn't have grammatical errors...

Thanks, but the petition has been spell checked thoroughly.
COMPLAINANTS is correct; COMPLAINTANTS is not a word.

My email address is mentioned in several places in the petition, so it should be no mystery who to contact regarding issues.

Ah, but at least BOSE and Nissan weren't lying about working on the problem. And maybe like a thread a while back eluded to, they were taking their time to get it right this time. We'll see!

Well, now I'm confused. I never got the "audio pilot" fix because it was said it created problems with bass. Now it's being posted that the new TSB only applies to vehicles built after 9/27/02. However, I took delivery the 1st week of 9/02. So it still has the "audio pilot " problem but was built before 9/27/02. How does this apply for the vehicles manufactered in 7/02-8/02?????? They need fixing too!

Default New Information....

I just found out that there were actually TWO new Bose TSB's issued on the same day. (10/1/03)

TSB NTB 03-086

This TSB applies to all Touring models produced PRIOR to 9/28/02 and SUPERCEDES the original TSB addressing the bass over boost problem.
____________________________________________________

TSB NTB 03-087

This TSB addresses the "lack of clarity" in all Bose systems installed in 350Z's produced between 9/28/02 and 6/03.

__________________________________________________

The fix for BOTH issues is to check to see the model number of the amp in the vehicle. If the amp is NOT model number:

2860-CE400

then the amp will be replaced.

Background info: The fix for the original over boost problem was to install amp model number 2860-CD400. This is also the model number of the amps installed in all new Bose systems after 9/28/02.

So, both TSB's referenced above have the same fix.

I hope this clears up some of the confusion.

wedge, you certainly are on top of thing. I was just sitting down to ask you that question since the dealers are somewhat confused. What was the order time for the new amp?

Smile Which Amp and Where ?

Wedge

Which amp and where?

Are you speaking of the head assembly,

The big amp at rear of trunk

Or that little Bose amp that drives the Woofer?

Inquiring minds want to know... I contacted Nissan of Garden Grove. The service manager was reading 36-086 ( pre 9/27/02 )
and will read the 36-087 ( 9/27/02 - 6/?/03 )

Understand amp must be 2860-CE400 to be correct.

Any others will be replaced.

Cheers Amy -

Amy, went in and ordered mine from Garden Grove this am. Went over TSBs with Ed. He was confused re whcih cars were covered. Basically they all are and the fix is the same, as Wedge pointed out. It is the large amp in the back.

Just visited my dealer. He also was reading TSB NTB 03-086 based on a NNA alert. Had not seen the TSB NTB 03-087. Showed Master Tech. the latest posts. He just shook his head. Asked, "Are you having a problem?" "Don't know!" "If the problem was there from day #1, I have probably lived with it" "On the other hand, the CD6 stopped working, it was replaced and now I have All CD Mix". "I guess we just have to look and see what model number I have". He does not want to see those letter go out! "This is a TSB not a recall", he says. Wants to put off looking until I am in to replace front OEM tires per NNA and grease fix.
